My-Otome (舞-乙HiME, Mai-Otome) is an anime produced by Sunrise, Inc. that aired from October 6th, 2005 to March 30th, 2006 on TV Tokyo. The show is an alternate universe to My-HiME. My-Otome uses characters from My-HiME, but changes their roles and backgrounds to suit the new storyline. The series was originally announced under the working title "舞☆MAiD" ("Mai Star MAiD"). As with My-HiME, the title is a quirky mix of English/Japanese wordplay, intentionally using an irregular romanization of 舞 (mai) as "My", and 乙HiME also stands for 乙-Type Highly Advance Materializing Equipment. There is also a manga adaptation which follows a very different story.

The plot of the anime is centered around a training school for Otome, who are young girls trained for combat for the protection of royals and politicians, called Garderobe in the Windbloom Kingdom.

There is a 4 episode OAV series due for release 11/24/2006, entitled My-Otome Zwei. [1][2]

Story

In the distant future, mankind has left Earth. On one planet named Earl, some of the "old technology" has survived in the form of nanomachines that allow young female virgins to take the role of Otomes - bodyguards and warriors that serve the royalty of various kingdoms. However, not everyone is content to allow the old technology to be so under-utilized, and there are those who seek to use it for their own nefarious ends. This is the environment in which My Otome is set.

The main character is Arika Yumemiya, a 14-year-old girl who grew up in a rural country. She has traveled to the Windbloom Kingdom in search of her mother, who is said to be a legendary Meister Otome. On arrival to Windbloom, Arika sees Meister Shizuru Viola (also known as the Graceful Amethyst) in combat and decides to become an Otome herself. The rest of the series follows her progress as a student at Garderobe academy and through the machinations of those who seek to overthrow the Windbloom Kingdom.

Characters

Note: When given names between My-Otome and My-HiME characters are the same, you can assume they have the same character design, with a few notable exceptions. As with the My-HiME article, this mainly describes the anime version only.

Garderobe Academy (ガルデローベ学園)

Coral Otome

  • Arika Yumemiya (アリカ・ユメミヤ) - The main character of My Otome. She left her home to enter Garderobe dreaming of become an otome like her mother.
  • Nina Wáng (ニナ・ウォン Nina Won) - The second main character of My Otome. As the top Coral student, Nina dreams to become a great otome to appease the spectations of her adoptive father Sergay, for whom her devotion and feelings are far greater than a father/daughter relationship.
  • Erstin Ho (エルスティン・ホー Erusutin Hō) - Both Arika's and Nina's roomates. During the series's first episodes, Erstin mostly served as a bridge between the clumsy and spontaneous Arika, and the introverted and obstinate Nina, thus the trio became close friends, but she hides a dark secret that can shatter this friendship.
  • Irina Woods (イリーナ・ウッズ Irīna Uzzu) - Irina is another girl who becomes friends with Arika. She shows a love for machinery and is friendly with Yohko Helene. She is from the Aries Republic and her tuition is paid by the government. She is resuced by Maria and Yukariko and makes a temporary connection with Fumi to allow Natsuki to materialise her robe in order to attack the Valkyrie system. In the end, she becomes a Pearl.
  • Tomoe Marguerite (トモエ・マルグリット Tomoe Maruguritto) - A secondary antagonist of My-Otome as well as Coral No. 2 and a room attendant for Chie. For reasons unknown, Tomoe begins to set traps for Arika since her arrival in the academy, in an attempt to hurt or expel her.
  • Lilie Adean (リリエ・アディーン Ririe Adīn) - Lilie is a member of Arika's class and one of Chie's room attendants. She, Miya and Yayoi are always hanging out together. She and Yayoi are made honorary Maki Maki members by Shiho. In the end, they're made Pearls along with Irina.
  • Yayoi Alter (ヤヨイ・オールター Yayoi Ōrutā) - Another of Shiho's attendants and a girl with a very overactive imagination. She also fancies cute boys. She's from Lutetia Romulus. She and Lilie are made honorary Maki Maki members by Shiho. In the end, they're made Pearls along with Irina.
  • Miya Clochette (ミーヤ・クロシェット Mīya Kuroshetto) - One of Shiho's room attendants. She is unwillingly part of Tomoe's plotting against Nina and Arika. She leaves Garderobe later in the series, after the academy discovers that she (under Tomoe's command) asked her associates to rape Arika (which was, fortunately, interrupted in time by Sergay).

Pearl Otome

Note: The Top Three Pearls form the equivalent of Garderobe's student council, which can be spelled several ways. Trias is used below.

  • Akane Soir (アカネ・ソワール Akane Sowāru) - The top Pearl class student at the academy and leader of the Trias. She harbors romantic feelings for Kazuya. Like Mai, she was torn between love and her dreams of becoming a Meister Otome. She was appointed Meister to the king of Florince but abandoned her dream to run off with Kazuya. Before the two could consummate their relationship, they were found and Kazuya was dragged off to become the emperor of Cardair, while she was arrested by Otome Pillar #5, Maya. Akane chose to become his Meister and uses the Malachite of Pure Love (清恋の孔雀石 Seiren no Kujakuishi) GEM; however, she's not pleased about it. Her Meister Robe is tiger themed and sports a pair of cat ears, as in MH her Child was Harry, a tiger type. She has resolved to lose her virginity to Kazuya, though Maya has told her she would not allow it.
  • Chie Hallard (チエ・ハラード Chie Harādo) - Chie is Pearl number two and a member of the Trias. She is also referred to as Major Hallard by the Aries military. She is very boyish and often carries a blue rose around.
  • Shiho Huit (シホ・ユイット Shiho Yuitto) - Shiho is Pearl number three and the last member of the Trias. She is from Cardair. She likes to use a strange voodoo doll style contraption to wish harm on her rivals, such as Nao. Her mental instability from My-HiME is comically utilized in My-Otome. Nao gives her the nickname, "Uzumaki" because of her voodoo habits. She somehow acquires a Meister GEM known as the Spiral Serpentine (螺旋の蛇紋石 Rasen no Jamonseki), which gives her a dark robe with voodoo themed charms. Her primary weapon is, of course, a Maki Maki Doll which she uses to place curses on the enemy slaves which makes them self destruct. Nao further pokes fun at her by referring her as the "Maki Maki Queen."
  • Juliet Nao Zhang (ジュリエット・ナオ・チャン Jurietto Nao Chan) - Pearl number four. Like Nina, she hails from Artai to become an Otome under Nagi, but she has other plans for the future.

Campus Administration

  • Natsuki Kruger (ナツキ・クルーガー Natsuki Kurūgā) - The headmaster of the Otome academy, she was schoolmates with Shizuru, Haruka and Mai. She is #2 of the Five Columns (see below) and is known as the Ice Silver Crystal (氷雪の銀水晶 Hyōsetsu no Ginsuishō). She is from the remote region of Count Kruger's territory (クルーガー伯辺境領). It is strongly implied that she and Shizuru are lovers. During her days as a student, she and Mai were rivals. She was Shizuru's room attendant, and later Rosalie's (Florince's Otome) onee-sama. Her Element is a massive energy cannon capable of executing an attack called 'Howling Silver Wolf'.
  • Shizuru Viola (シズル・ヴィオーラ Shizuru Viōra) - #3 of the Five Columns, known as the Beguiling Amethyst (嬌嫣の紫水晶 Kyōen no Murasakisuishō). Her interest in Natsuki seen in the original My-HiME seems to be upgraded in this series to an actual relationship. She permanently resides with her in the Principal building, when she's not on missions for Garderobe. Shizuru is from Windbloom, and she was classmates and rivals with Haruka. She fights with a double-bladed katana whose blades can extend in a whiplike fashion, much like her naginata did in My-HiME. Her reason for fighting is to "protect her most precious person." She is captured by Artai forces during the invasion and brought under the care of Tomoe, who harbors feelings for her. She frees herself in the last episodes, giving a significant support to the other Columns and Otome.
  • Maria Graceburt (マリア・グレイスバート Maria Gureisubāto) - An inactive Meister Otome serving as part of Garderobe's upper administration. She is from Old Lutesia and she is known as the Eternal Jasper (久遠の碧玉 Kuon no Hekigyoku). Strict and often-unsmiling, Miss Maria is feared by the students (even Nao) and Natsuki clearly respects her. She is very aware of the tragic consequences of being an Otome, having lived through the War of the Dragon King 50 years ago as the then Pearl No. 1's attendant. Her Element is a rapier, and when she materialises her Robe in the final episode, she proves to be an extremely skilled and elegant fighter. The robe transformation itself parallels Genkai from Yuyu Hakusho, as the tranformation itself enables her to revert to a young age for a period of time.
  • Yukariko Steinberg (ユカリコ・シュタインベルグ Yukariko Shutainberugu) - In the first series she was a nun, now she is the homeroom teacher for Nina and Arika and a Meister Otome as well. She is from Florince, and she is known as the Dazzling Lapis (幻惑の瑠璃 Genwaku no Ruri). Unlike her first incarnation, she doesn't seem to be as quiet or conflicted in nature, though she still has a bow similar to the one she used in My-Hime. She returned to Garderobe as an instructor during Natsuki and Mai's Coral days because she had had to cancel her contract with her Master. It seems that several of her previous Masters had also fallen in love with her.
  • Yohko Helene (ヨウコ・ヘレネ Youko Herene) - A scientist at Garderobe who appears to be in charge of handling the technology that gives the Otome their powers. She is building a car in her spare time with help from Irina. She appears to have some connection with Aswad as she, Midori, and Reito grew up together.
  • Fumi Himeno (フミ・ヒメノ) - The 'First Otome' that lived 300 years ago who possessed the ultimate GEM called the Pure White Diamond (真白なる金剛石 Mashiro naru Kongōseki). She basically single-handedly ended the destructive 12 Kingdom War and founded Garderobe. However, during that time, her GEM turned into the "Ultimate Black Diamond" after sensing human despair. During Shizuru and Natsuki's materialization sequence, the initials F.H. indicates that Fumi Himeno is indeed their Master, but how this actually works is unknown. Her consciousness selects new Columns. It is speculated that her body is kept in stasis in a chamber deep underneath the Academy. In episode 17, a large orb resting deep under Garderobe is seen bearing her name, implying that it is either a large computer imbued with her consciousness or a cryo-chamber. In episode 19, it is confirmed that it is Fumi's body resting in the chamber, preserved and "asleep." When it is disconnected, the five columns and all the students whose Robes were released during the emergency lose their ability to materialize, though Otome's with private masters (such as Arika and later Nina) retain their powers.

Five Columns

The five columns are special Otome who serve no master save for Garderrobe and Fumi, the first Otome. These five are considered among the strongest of all Otome in the world. They are, in order:

  • Sara Gallagher (サラ・ギャラガー Sara Gyaragā) - A Meister Otome, Column #1 of the Five Columns, the Galactic Aquamarine (銀河の藍玉 Ginga no Rangyoku). She appears in ep. 24, bringing "presents" to Aries from Zipang after a mission in the Eastern Territories. She also scolds Haruka for her mispronunciation of words.
  • Natsuki Kruger (ナツキ・クルーガー Natsuki Kurūgā), #2 Column and the Ice Silver Crystal (氷雪の銀水晶 Hyōsetsu no Ginsuishō). (See above)
  • Shizuru Viola (シズル・ヴィオーラ Shizuru Viōra), #3 Column, the Beguiling Amethyst (嬌嫣の紫水晶 Kyōen no Murasakisuishō). (See above)
  • Juliet Nao Zhang (ジュリエット・ナオ・チャン Jurietto Nao Chan), she becomes the #4 Column later in the series. (See above)
  • Mahya Blythe (マーヤ・ブライス Māya Buraisu) - A Meister Otome, Column #5 of the Five Columns, the Balletic Fluorite (伶踊の蛍石 Reiyō no Botaruishi). She appears in ep. 24, meeting Akane in the middle of a road after Kazuya was carried away by Cardair's guards. She arrested Akane, but let her slide as Akane is now contracted to Kazuya. However, she vows to watch over both of them if they pull anything "H" (pretty much meaning not allowing the couple to have sex). In the fifth special DVD episode, Akane addresses Maya as her "onee-sama" which could quite suggests that perhaps Akane is Maya's former room attendant.

Windbloom Kingdom (ヴィントブルーム王国)

  • Mashiro Blan de Windbloom (マシロ・ブラン・ド・ヴィントブルーム Mashiro Buran Do Vintoburūmu) - The princess (and later Queen) of Windbloom. Windbloom is a pun on her name from Mai-Hime--"Kazahana" which means "Wind flower". Snobbish and childish during the start of the series, she accidentally becomes Arika's master, and as their friendship strengthens, she begins to develop the traits of an honorable ruler.
  • Mikoto (ミコト) - A fat cat owned by Mashiro. The connection between her and the shadowy figure seen under Fuuka Palace remains a mystery. However, there seems to be more than one Mikoto cat. One is with Mashiro and another is seen on the roof of Natsuki's jeep in episode 22. Each has a different forehead marking. In Episode 23, it was discovered that the two Mikoto-type cats are servants of Mikoto, the cat goddess.
  • Sakomizu Cardinal (サコミズ・カージナル Sakomizu Kājinaru) - Captain of Windbloom's Royal Guards, constantly frustrated by Mashiro's willful antics. While not as prominent of a character this time around, when appearing, he acts as a father figure to Mashiro.
  • Aoi Senoh (アオイ・セノー Aoi Senō) - Mashiro's long-suffering maid. As a result of Mashiro's irresponsibility and snottiness, Aoi seems to be doing more to run Windbloom than the Queen. She is also a close friend to Chie. She appears to commit suicide in episode 18 after refusing to tell a lynch mob the whereabouts of Mashiro, despite knowing exactly where she was. While the mob cheered her demise, this greatly traumatized Mashiro. However, she does not die as a result of the fall and is found by Artai forces and brought back to Windbloom. Severely injured, she is mostly unconscious and Chie cares for her. This is confirmed when Aoi is seen laying in a hospital bed in episode 22, referred to by Smith as Nagi's "insurance," as both Aoi and Mashiro knows the final verse of the song to unlock the Harmonium. She is rescued by Chie in the finale.
  • Mimi (ミミ) - A young orphaned girl who lived in the slums of Windbloom. She stole Nina's birthday gift in her first appearance and later saved and befriended Mashiro without knowing her identity. Interestingly enough, she resembles Alyssa from Mai-HiME, but is voiced by Ai Shimizu, the voice of Mikoto (from both HiME and Otome). She hates Mashiro with a passion, a sentiment shared by many of Windbloom's poorer residents. She encounters Mashiro again while she and the refugees trek to Aswad and are attacked by Jabbal the rock monster. At first Mashiro refuses to help after what happened to Aoi, but remembers Mimi's kindness towards her and Midori's words of helping her people and activates Arika's robe so she can destroy the Jabbal. However, Mimi is injured and later dies. Her death made Mashiro realize that she must help her people and struck a deal with Midori to give her people sanctuary in trade for the use of Garderobe's technology. Mimi herself was buried by Mashiro and Arika in Aswad with her hat sitting on top of her grave stone. In the end, Mashiro kept a promise to her.

Artai Principality (アルタイ公国)

  • Nagi Dài Artai (ナギ・ダイ・アルタイ Nagi Dai Arutai) - Nagi is the Grand Duke of Artai. He enjoys teasing Mashiro and seems to know exactly what buttons to press to get his way. Upon his first meeting with Mashiro, he asked her if she was the "fake princess of Windbloom." Since then, the two have had a love-hate relationship. He's even had proposed marriage to Mashiro and nearly kissed her except for Arika's interference. He is working with John Smith, a front man for Schwarz and is partially behind the recent tensions between Lutecia Romulus and Lutecia Remus. Like his My-HiME equivalent, he knows more about what is going on than the rest of the characters. It seems he's more antagonistic in this series rather than in My-HiME. Nina becomes his Otome, bound through the jewel of the "Ultimate Black Diamond," was originally the "Pure white Diamond" but became evil because of human despair. When Artai is defeated, Nagi is arrested by Chie and sentence to slave labor in the Black Valley, overseen by Mikoto.
  • Sergay Wáng (セルゲイ・ウォン Serugei Won) - Commander in the Artai Military and is Nagi's right-hand man as well as Nina's adoptive father.
  • Tatsuhiko Gorvic Zaycech IV (タツヒコ・ゴロヴィッチ・ザイツェフⅣ世 Tatsuhiko Gorobitchi Zeishefu IV)
  • Yamada (ヤマダ) - Sergay's informant and personal mailman. He's also Nao's informant.

Aries Republic (エアリーズ共和国)

  • Yukino Chrysant (ユキノ・クリサント Yukino Kurisanto) - Yukino is the President of the Aries Republic and is the person Haruka protects. Her affection for Haruka in My-HiME is still present and she still corrects Haruka's frequent misuse of words. However, unlike her My-HiME self, she is much more assertive and potrays the image of a cool-minded leader.
  • Haruka Armitage (ハルカ・アーミテージ Haruka Āmitēji) - Haruka is a headstrong and impulsive Meister Otome, known as the Jewel Isle Topaz (珠洲の黄玉 Suzu no Kōgyoku). Her strength is enough to send spaceships hurtling through the air with a single-handed toss. She was classmates with Shizuru and there are hints in the series of a rivalry between the two. She wields the ball and chain mace weapon of her My-HiME Manga counterpart. It is amusing to note that Haruka protects Yukino in My-Otome; in My-HiME Yukino was a HiME who protected Haruka. It's also important to know that Haruka adopted the tokusatsu concepts in this series. Last season, Midori was the one who took up that role.

Aswad (アスワド)

  • Midori (ミドリ) - Leader of Aswad, the last survivors of the 'Black Valley'. She is seeking to recover the technology of the ancient world in order to cure a disease that the Aswad suffer from. She fights with twin wakizashi and a variation of Garderobe's GEM technology called REM (Reinforcing Enigmatic Matrix) which gives her the powers of an Otome without the need to Materialize though lasting only 300 seconds. She can also summon a "Slave" called Gakutenou, who appears almost identical to her Child from My-HiME with some extra designs that are similar to the designs seen in the game, Mai-HiME: The Another. In episode 17 she leads her squad to Garderobe in an attempt to steal their technology. She was unaware that her childhood friend was a member of the staff. She later rescues Arika and then Mashiro from the desert, asking them to give her access to the nanomachines in Arika's body to find a cure for her people. She aids the Otome in the attack against Artai after being convinced by Youko. It reveals that Gakutenou can upgrade into a hover board like weapon which Midori uses to crash into adversaries (Which she does in Mai-HiME too). Mashiro in the end made her end of the bargain and the Windbloom refugees are able to return. In addition, the Black Valley (which was risen by Mikoto) is implied to be under their care. In one of the DVD specials Midori fights an Otome version of Kitty Mikoto after discovering Arika in the desert, and is seen later sleeping with the cat on her chest as her comrades comment on how much she loves cats despite her usual cold attitude.
  • Rad (ラド Rado) - A cyborg from the Black Valley and the My-Otome incarnation of Kanzaki Reito. Part of a team under the command of Midori. He fights with a heavy double-ended spear. In episode 10, Yohko looks at a photograph showing younger versions of her and Midori together with a young and human Reito. In fact, when Yohko meets him again, she calls him by his original name. However, he states that he is no longer Reito but the cyborg Rad. He later reveals that he was the one who killed Rena during a joint Aswad/Schwarz attack on Windbloom 15 years ago. Along with the other members of Aswad, they choose to give Rena a noble burial as they all acknowledged her strength despite no longer being an Otome. However, as they were about to bury her, Schwarz stole her body and because of that, Aswald broke ties with Schwartz. He can summon a dog-like SLAVE similar to a Cerebus. It reveals that after the raid on Cardair, Rad is beginning to deteriorate. Joins Midori, along with the other Aswad cyborgs, in aiding the Otome gain back Gardenrobe and Windbloom from Artai.
  • Lumen (ルーメン Rūmen) - Another member of Midori's unit. Possesses a man's voice but a woman's body and speech pattern. He/She fights with a long metallic whip and can summon a "Slave" called Ketos. It is revealed that Lumen was killed during the assault on Cardair.
  • Gal (ガル Garu) - The last member of Midori's team. She appears skilled with electronics and fights with a chakram. She speaks using a combination of Japanese and English words. She can summon a beetle-like SLAVE.
  • Dyne (ダイン Dain) - A massive cyborg and part of Midori's team. Fights with a double-ended hammer.

Zipang (ジパング)

  • Takumi Tokiha (鴇羽 巧海 頭忠頼 Tokiha Takumi no Kami Tadayori) - The son of the shogun of Zipang who ran off to experience Windbloom as his sister had experienced it, disguising his identity to do so with the help of Sergay Wang, indicating that Sergay was probably the one who fell in love with Mai. He is strongly opposed to the system and use of the Otome as he does not believe in putting the weight of an entire nation on a single girl. The crest on his uniform is the same symbol associated with Mai and is probably a national/royal symbol. Both his name and Akira's are written in Kanji and in the Japanese style. The probable reason for this is because Zipang is based off of Japan. (Japan was originally called Cipango by the western world.) Nevertheless, Zipang sends supplies and equipment to the Aries Republic to help in the fight against Nagi. Note: Takumi's full "name" in Japanese, "Tokiha Takumi no Kami Tadayori", is his full title as the son of a shogun and not his actual whole name.
  • Akira Okuzaki (尾久崎 晶 Okuzaki Akira) - Akira is a kunoichi and is Takumi's bodyguard. She is stronger than a coral with a robe on. She disguised herself as Takumi while he was out enjoying the sights of Windbloom. She disguised herself similarly in My-HiME.
  • Iori (伊織) - Takumi's attendant; many pointed out that he could be the MO version of Takeda.
  • Mai Tokiha (鴇羽 舞衣 Tokiha Mai) - Natsuki's rival from her days as a student and another of the Five Columns (as Nao is selected as a replacement for the 'missing No. IV, that was probably her number). Mai is Takumi's older sister. At one point in her life, she was torn between her love for a man and her duty as a newly appointed Column. Although he is never seen clearly and the issue is never addressed except in passing, the shadow of the man she was in love with appears very similar to MH's Tate in a flashback. Her GEM is the Fire String Ruby (炎綬の紅玉 Enju no Kōgyoku). It was said her last location was the "Sprite's Forest" and it is later revealed that she stepped into one of Mikoto's traps and thus landed in the Black Valley. Her story is a legend (though only a few years old) among the Otome. In the original My-HiME series, she was the main character. She is first seen in the series itself in episode 22 and features prominently in episode 23. In episode 23, Mai's jewel was activated, her contract says unknown. She later reveals that Mikoto ate the GEM which would have belonged to her Master, thus Mikoto became Mai's master. She sort of becomes a mentor to Mashiro as she is of royal blood. In the end, she is reunited with her brother. In addition, remains with Mikoto to tend to the slave labor and continue being Mikoto's cook ( As she was in Mai-HiME).

Cardair Empire (カルデア帝国)

Note: "Cardair" is also spelled "Carlteya" in some translations. Cardair is used below.

  • Argos XIV (アルゴス14世 Arugosu 14) - One of the three emperors of Cardair. He has been working with the Aswad in secret. Later on dies because he betrayed the Aswald knights.
  • Fiar Grosse (フィア・グロス Fia Gurosu) - 'The Lovely Onyx' (塊麗の縞瑪瑙 Kenrei no Shimamenō), Argos XIV's Otome. She doesn't trust the Aswad, but she is very obedient to her master. She attacked Aswad and stole the technology that created Midori's REMs as well as give Rad and the others their cyborg bodies. However, the Aswald knights strike back, killing Fia and as a result, Argos XIV.
  • Kazuya Krau-xeku (カズヤ・クラウゼク Kazuya Kurauzeku) - A second-year student at Windbloom University, and an heir to one of Cardair's three royal families. Unsurprisingly, he and Akane are close, just as they were in My-HiME. He and Akane are last seen driving away together, implying a happy end for them both. In episode 24, we see him dragged away by Cardair soldiers leaving Akane behind. He becomes the new King of Cardair, with Akane serving as his Meister Otome.

Florince (フロリンス)

  • Charles Guinel Roy d'Florince VIII (シャルル・ギュネール・ロイ・デ・フロリンス八世 Sharuru Gyunēru Roi De Furorinsu 8) - The King of Florince. He almost ended up being Akane's master, but that did not come to be as Kazuya interrupted the ceremony and ran off with her. Instead of Akane, the new otome he was to contract with was Shiho Huit, from Cardair. Due to Schwarz's attack on Windbloom and the disappearance of the Spiral Serpentine GEM, this contract was also never established.
  • Rosalie Claudel (ロザリー・クローデル Rozarī Kurōderu) - Florince's Otome, the Abyssal Jade (深淵の翡翠 Shin’en no Hisui), formerly the Malachite of Pure Love. She was planning on retiring and marrying with Akane's appointment to her position, but was forced to remake her contract with the king of Florince using a new GEM.

United Kingdom of Lutesia (ルーテシア連合王国)

Lutesia Romulus (ルーテシア・ロムルス)

  • The King of Lutesia Romulus
  • Carla Bellini (カーラ・ベリーニ Kāra Berīni) - Lutesia Romulus' Otome, the Thundering Garnet (雷鳴の柘榴石 - Raimei no Zakuroishi). She was a Coral in the same year as Natsuki and Mai.

Lutesia Remus (ルーテシア・レムス)

  • The Queen of Lutesia Remus
  • Laula Bianchi (ラウラ・ビアンキ Raura Bianki) - Lutesia Remus' Otome, The Gorgeous Enstatite (絢爛の頑火輝石 - Kenran no Gankakiseki). She was a Coral in the same year as Natsuki and Mai. She's one of the most popular Otome. Also appeared in the fake Mai-Hime DVD movie trailer as one of Arika's assistants.

Annam (アンナン)

  • Nguyen Bao (グエン・バオ Guen Bao) - The King of Annam. He meets Yukino, Haruka, Natsuki and Nao in episode 21/22, and agrees to help them against Artai.
  • Anh Lu (アイン・ルー Ain Rū) - Nguyen's Otome and his daughter, the Imperious Azurite (慧命の藍銅鉱 Emyō no Randōkō). In ep. 22, Natsuki addresses her as "onee-sama".

Schwarz (シュヴァルツ)

  • John Smith (ジョン・スミス Jon Sumisu) - The blond-haired spokesman and possible leader of Schwarz, a secret organization dedicated towards using the technology of the past for some as yet unstated goal. Nagi allies with him in order to take control of Windbloom. Smith ordered Erstin to summon her slave, ultimately leading to the girl's death. He also directed the re-construction of Mashiro's palace into a weapon of mass destruction and shut down Garderobe's materialization ability. And it was Smith who had a hand in the death of Rena and who is now using her body's remains in order to create Schwarz-controlled Otomes called Valkyries (of which Tomoe is one). In My-Hime, his character was aligned with the Searrs Organization and served much the same function but was more of a liaison between SEARRS and First District; in this series, he appears more of a central figure this time and acts as a secondary antagonist. It is unknown whether John Smith is an alias or his real name. Later on he is shot by Sergay and dies.

Other

  • Rena Sayers (レナ・セイヤーズ Rena Seiyāzu) - A former Meister Otome contracted to the King of Windbloom. She vanished fourteen years ago during the attack on the castle and was presumed dead. She was the former bearer of the Blue Sky Sapphire and is Arika's mother. Sergay had an immense crush on her years ago, partially motivating his decision to sponsor Arika at Garderobe. It is later revealed that she was killed by Aswad in a fight with Rado. Her remains were then stolen by Schwarz and are being used by John Smith to create a new type of Otome. As of episode 20, it is suggested that Rena's body acts as Fumi's body did and is the shinso for Artai's army of Otome. In episode 23, she is revealed as a descendant of Otome's version of Alissa Searrs, so Rena's surname, "Sayers," is likely a phonetic derivative of Searrs that occurred over the centuries. In the final battle, Arika destroys the machine that encases her body. Her soul is freed and as a final act of love to her only daughter, gives Arika her Meister Robe, Ultimate Blue Sky.
  • Miyu (ミユ) - A mysterious traveller who watches over Arika. Her uniform is similar to her Searrs 'Mithril Dress' from My-HiME except it has long pants instead of shorts. Overtime, she would stay with Mai Tokiha and the Crystal Princess, Mikoto, in the Black Valley. She appears to Shizuru in episode 14 and reveals knowledge which suggests that she might be the same Miyu from My-HiME. However, this proves not the case when, in episode 22, her name is revealed as the Merciful Intelligential Yggdrasil Unit, instead of the Multiple Intelligential Yggdrasil Unit that she was in My-HiME. She was apparently created by My-Otome's version of Alyssa Sears in the past in order to deal with the presence of the Ultimate Black Diamond that Nina Wong uses. She also appeared during the invasion of Windbloom years before, but came too late as everyone was killed. There was indication that she was very good friends with Rena, as she indicated to Sergay, as a vow she made to Rena that she would destroy Schwartz and those associated with them. In addition, she rescued Arika as a baby and gave her to her grandmother, Rena's mother. In addition, she also found Rena's GEM and Artai and took back and left it with Rena's mother for her to give it to Arika when she got older. She has her trademark "Maria" sword arm and when she teams up with Alyssa, it activates her attack, "Artemis", an energy sword slash. Artemis was the name of Alyssa's child in My-HiME. Miyu revealed Arika as Rena's daughter and Alyssa's descendant. She later pulls out her Mithril Dress from a lava pit. However, her weapons are modified compared to her MH version. In the finale, she goes to what looks like Fuuka Gakuen and actives the Guiding Star which causes all the Otomes to materialise without their masters.
  • Alyssa (アリッサ Arissa) - Miyu's bird, her crest is similar to the hair style of her My-HiME counterpart. When teamed with Miyu, they can active her attack, "Artemis" which parallel's the child Artemis' final attack, "Golden Thunder."
  • Alyssa Searrs - She appears as a flash back in MIYU's memory during episode 24. She is the ancestor of Rena Sayers and Arika Yumemiya; as well as Miyu's creator. In the flashback, she is depicted slighty older than her My-Hime version, but with her trademark hairstyle.
  • Mikoto - Referred to as a Cat God by Mai and the Crystal Princess by Miyu, Mikoto is a young girl who wears buddhist robes with prayer beads around her neck and carries a traditional bronze staff shaped like a cat's head. She is served by a network of cats, one of which is Mashiro's pet, which she keeps in contact with through cat statues. She also had a shadow double which guarded the harmonium below Windbloom castle until it was defeated by Nina. Mikoto also bears the mark of the HiME on her arm, as she did on My-HiME. Mikoto is contracted to Mai by accident after eating her GEM. According to Miyu, she is an original prototype Otome, who is able to materialize naturally, the last of her kind. She trains Arika to fight more effectively with her GEM and aids the Otome in the final battle. She and Natsuki destroys the remains of the Harmonium to prevent any future use. In the end, she runs a slave labor camp in the Black Valley, in which Nagi is a part of and gets beaten up by her. Most of the series, she's in her playful state just like in MH; however, her fighting personality is not evident, but exists. Note: Mikoto's "Cat God" status might be due to the fact that she behaved like a cat in Mai-HiME and was often called "the Demon Cat" as a result. The "God" part might be in contrast with "Demon".
  • Jyuubei - Cat Mikoto's twin, but has a different emblem on its forehead. Unlike Mikoto, Jyuubei travels a lot keeping tabs on the events taking place in the various kingdoms. Jyuubei also acts as a messenger to Miyu while she's traveling.

Trivia

  • All the HiMEs, who are Otomes in this series, have Meister Robes and Elements based on their Childs.
    • Mai - Flame Robe with Kagutsuchi's trademark symbol.
    • Natsuki - Ice Robe with Duran's skin color and a weapon resembling Duran's cannons. She even says her trademark, "Load Silver Cartridge!!!" quote from HiME as she initiates her "Howling Silver Wolf" attack.
    • Shizuru - Purple Robe with a retractable blade element.
    • Nao - Spider/Scorpion motif with a giant claw element.
    • Akane - Tiger motif with kitty ear headband.
    • Shiho - Black with some glowing purple resembling her Child.
    • Yukariko - Her element is a bow similar to the one which she used in My HiME.
  • In episode 23, when Arika learns that Mai is the sister of the king of Zipang, she says "that means she's Princess Mai!" This is a tribute to the original series: "princess Mai" would be spoken as "Mai Hime" in Japanese.
  • In episode 25, Mai does the ending narration and stating the next episode is the finale episode; then, she freaks out realizing that she didn't get enough screen time considering the fact she's no longer the main character.
  • In episode 26, Mikoto is seen scraping her staff and screaming frantically; that scene pays homage to her trademark battle cry and charge she always did in HiME.
  • In episode 26, Mashiro is briefly seen in a wheelchair due to a broken leg. This is an homage to her character in Hime, who was paralyzed from the waist down.
  • In one of the specials with Akane and Kazuya, they "replayed" the part where Kazuya died in Mai-HiME.
  • There are a few possible references to nuclear chemistry regarding the Aswad. The REM that Midori wears can also be interpreted as a reference to the unit of measuring the amount radioactive damage on biological tissue, the rem (roentgen equivalent for man). Rad's name could also be a reference to the unit for absorption of energy per kilogram of tissue, the rad (radiation absorbed dose). (The difference is that the rad measures only energy absorption, while rem directly measures biological damage.)
These two terms are also related to each other mathematically: (# rems) = (# rads) (RBE, which stands for relative biological effectiveness)
The radioactivity reference is likely since there are other references to radiation damage with the Aswad, such as the sickness that the Aswad people suffer as a result of powerful weapons which left the land a desert wasteland, analogous to the nuclear bomb and radiation sickness.
