Alizai (Pashtun tribe)

Alizai is a Pashtun tribe indigenous to southern Afghanistan, Western Pakistan and Balochistan. It belongs to the Panjpai confederation of the larger Durrani tribe of Ahmad Shah Durrani. The Alizai Pashtuns are usually bilingual in Pashto and Persian. Sardar Ahmed Nawaz Khan Alizai is the chieftain of Alizai tribe. He resides in Mastung, Balochistan.
Geographic distribution
The Alizai tribe mostly reside in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Loy Kandahar region of southern Afghanistan. They are concentrated around Helmand and Farah provinces as well. [citation needed] They also resides in Attock and Multan region of Punjab province. In 2007, Alizai tribesmen in the village of Musa Qala in Helmand province united under Mullah Abdul Salam fought alongside the Taliban. Mullah Abdul Salam later agreed to change sides and was appointed by President Hamid Karzai as the governor of Musa Qala district.[1]
