Files for discussion (FfD) is for listing images and other media files which may be unneeded or have either free content or non-free content usage concerns. Files that have been listed here for more than 7 days are eligible for either deletion or removal from pages if either a consensus to do so has been reached or the nominator specifically requests deletion or removal and no objections are raised. To quote the non-free content criteria, "it is the duty of users seeking to include or retain content to provide a valid rationale; those seeking to remove or delete it are not required to show that one cannot be created." For undeletion requests, first contact the administrator who deleted the file. If you are unable to resolve the issue with that administrator, the matter should be brought to deletion review.

Examples of what files you may request for discussion, deletion or change here:

  • Obsolete – The file has been replaced by a better version.
  • Orphan – The file is not used on any pages in Wikipedia.
  • Unencyclopedic – The file doesn't seem likely to be useful in any Wikimedia project.
  • Low quality – The file is of an extremely low resolution, distorted, or has other physical image quality concerns.
  • Copyright violation – The file might be used in violation of copyright.
  • Possibly unfree – The file is tagged with a freeness claim, but may actually be eligible for copyright in the United States or the country of origin.
  • NFCC violation – The file is used under a claim of fair use but does not meet the requirements.
  • NFCC applied to free image – The file is used under a claim of fair use, but the file is either too simple, or is an image which has been wrongly labeled given evidence presented on the file description page.
  • Wrong license or status – The file is under one license, but the information on the file description pages suggests that a different license is more appropriate, or a clarification of status is desirable.
  • Wrongly claimed as own – The file is under a self license, but the information on the file description pages suggests otherwise.

If you have questions if something should be deleted, consider asking at Media Copyright Questions.

What not to list here

  1. For concerns not listed below, if a deletion is uncontroversial, do not use this process. Instead tag a file with {{subst:prod}}. However, if the template is removed, please do not reinsert it; list the file for deletion then.
  2. For speedy deletion candidates as well, do not use this page; instead use one of the speedy deletion templates. See the criteria for speedy deletion. These are: duplicates (where both files are on Wikipedia), thumbnails, broken files, non-existent files, non-commercial, "by permission" files and files which are not an image, sound file or video clip and have no encyclopedic use.
  3. Files that have no source, have an unknown copyright, are unused or replaceable non-free, or are non-free without rationale can be marked so that they will be deleted after a week, and should not be listed on this page. Add one of the following to the file page:
    1. {{subst:nsd}} if a file has no source indicated.
    2. {{subst:nld}} if a file has a source but no licensing information.
    3. {{subst:orfud}} if a file has a non-free copyright template but isn't used in any articles.
    4. {{subst:rfu}} if a file has a non-free copyright template but could be replaced by a free file.
    5. {{subst:dfu|reason}} if a file has a non-free copyright template but the rationale isn't sufficient or is disputed.
    6. {{subst:nrd}} if a file has no non-free use rationale.
  4. Redundant or duplicate files do not have to be listed here. Please use
    1. {{db-f1|Full name of file excluding the "File:" prefix}} for speedy deletion if the other file is on Wikipedia, not on Commons
    2. {{now commons|File:NEW FILENAME}} if the file now exists on Commons, or {{now commons}} for files with the same name on Commons. (Don't nominate protected images, they are usually locally uploaded and protected since they are used in an interface message or in a highly used template, thus they are high-risk.)
  5. For blatant copyright infringements, use speedy deletion by tagging the file {{db-f9}}.
  6. If a file is listed as public domain or under a free license, but lacks verification of this (either by an OTRS ticket number or a notice on the source website), tag it as {{subst:npd}}.
  7. Files that are hosted on Wikimedia Commons cannot be deleted via this process. Please use the Commons deletion page instead.
  8. Description pages with no local file, even though they are in the file namespace, should not be listed here.
    1. Redirects should be treated as in any other namespace: if no speedy deletion criteria apply, they should be listed at Wikipedia:Redirects for discussion.
    2. Local description pages with no associated file are speedy-deletable under criterion G8; use {{db-imagepage}}.
    3. Local description pages for files hosted on Commons are usually speedy-deletable under criterion F2 if there is no content relevant to Wikipedia; use {{db-fpcfail}}.
    4. Any other local description pages for files hosted on Commons should be listed at Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion.
  9. If a file is appropriately licensed and could be usable elsewhere, consider copying it to the Wikimedia Commons instead of listing it for deletion. Once copied to the Commons, it is eligible for speedy deletion per criterion 8 for files.
  10. If you are the uploader of the image, tag it with {{db-author}}.

Instructions for listing files for discussion

To list a file:

1
Edit the file page.

Add {{Ffd|log=2024 April 16}} to the file page.

2
Create its FfD subsection.

Follow this edit link and list the file using {{subst:Ffd2|File_name.ext|uploader=|reason=}} ~~~~

Leave the subject heading blank.

If the file has been replaced by another file, name the file that replaced it in your reason for deletion. Refer below for a list of other common reasons.

For listing additional files with the same reason, edit the first file section and use {{subst:Ffd2a|File_name.ext|Uploader=}} for each additional file. You may use this tool to quickly generate Ffd2a listings. Also, add {{Ffd|log=2024 April 16}} to the top of the file page of each file other than the first one nominated.

3
Give due notice.

Inform the uploader by adding a message to their talk page using {{subst:Ffd notice|File_name.ext}}

  • Remember to replace "File_name.ext" with the name of the image or media
  • For multiple images by the same user, use {{subst:Ffd notice multi|First_file.ext|Second_file.ext|Third_file.ext}} ~~~~ (can handle up to 26)

If the image is in use, also consider adding {{FFDC|File_name.ext|log=2024 April 16}} to the caption(s), or adding a notice to the article talk pages. Consider also notifying relevant WikiProjects of the discussion.

State the reasons why the file should be deleted, removed, or altered. Also, state what specific action should be taken, preferably in bold text; this allows discussion participants and closers to better understand the purpose of the nomination. Some examples of nomination statements include:

  • Delete. Orphaned with no foreseeable encyclopedic usage.
  • Delete. Replaced by File:FILE2.
  • Free (public domain) file may actually be eligible for copyright in the United States. This photograph was actually first published in 1931, not 1925.
  • Remove from ARTICLE1 and ARTICLE2. The file only meets WP:NFCC#8 with its use in ARTICLE3.
  • Non-free file may actually be free. This logo does not seem to meet the threshold of originality to be eligible for copyright in the United States and should actually be tagged free using {{PD-logo}}.

Some common reasons for deletion or removal from pages are:

  • Obsolete – The file has been replaced by a better version. Indicate the new file name.
  • Orphan – The file is not used on any pages in Wikipedia. (If the file is only available under "fair use", please use {{subst:orfud}} instead). Please consider moving "good" free licensed files to Commons rather than outright deleting them, other projects may find a use for them even if we have none; you can also apply {{Copy to Wikimedia Commons}}.
  • Unencyclopedic – The file doesn't seem likely to be useful in this encyclopedia (or for any Wikimedia project). Images used on userpages should generally not be nominated on this basis alone unless the user is violating the Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not policy by using Wikipedia to host excessive amounts unencyclopedic material (most commonly private photos).
  • Low quality – The image is of an extremely low resolution, distorted, or has other physical image quality concerns.
  • Copyright violation – The file might be used in violation of copyright.
  • Possibly unfree file – The file marked as free may actually be non-free. If the file is determined to be non-free, then it will be subject to the non-free content criteria in order to remain on Wikipedia.
  • Non-free file issues – The non-free file may not meet all requirements outlined in the non-free file use policy, or may not be necessary to retain on Wikipedia or specific articles due to either free alternatives or better non-free alternative(s) existing.
  • File marked as non-free may actually be free – The file is marked non-free, but may actually be free content. (Example: A logo may not eligible for copyright alone because it is not original enough, and thus the logo is considered to be in the public domain.)

These are not the only "valid" reasons to discuss a file. Any properly explained reason can be used. The above list comprises the most common and uncontroversial ones.

If you remove a file from an article, list the article from which you removed it so there can be community review of whether the file should be deleted. This is necessary because file pages do not remember the articles on which the file were previously used.

Instructions for discussion participation

In responding to the deletion nomination, consider adding your post in the format
* '''View''' - Reasoning ... -- ~~~~
where "Delete", "Keep", "Comment", or something else may replace "View". In posting their reasoning, many editors use abbreviations and cite to the following:

Remember that polling is not a substitute for discussion. Wikipedia's primary method of determining consensus is through editing and discussion, not voting. Although editors occasionally use straw polls in an attempt to test for consensus, polls or surveys sometimes impede rather than assist discussion. They should be used with caution, and are no more binding than any other consensus decision.

Also remember that if you believe that an image is potentially useful for other projects and should be moved to Wikimedia Commons, in lieu of responding '''Move to Commons''', you can move it there yourself. See Wikipedia:Moving files to the Commons for instructions.

Instructions for closing discussions

Nominations should be processed for closing after being listed for 7 days following the steps here.

File:Kid Lavigne Pose 1897.jpg

[edit]

File:Kid Lavigne Pose 1897.jpg (delete | talk | history | links | logs) – uploaded by Chouinard52 (notify | contribs | uploads | upload log).

Non-free file may actually be free. The uploader claims this photo was never published. Is this claim plausible? If so, the image qualifies for {{PD-US-unpublished}} as the author died in 1903. (On a cursory search I only found post-2003 publications, which do not change the copyright status.) Wikiacc () 00:25, 4 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Such cabinet photos may not have been published in the colloquial sense of the world, but the wide interpretation of "publication" in contemporary US copyright law means that formal portraits of this kind, which leave the custody of the commercial photographer and are handed over to the client, are usually considered to be published at that time. I would opt for a pre-1903 publication date and tag it as {{PD-US-expired}}. Felix QW (talk) 09:27, 4 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • (as nominator) It does seem that copies of the photo were distributed to members of the public around 1900, which (per Felix QW below and c:Commons:Publication#United States) counts as publication. Retag as {{PD-US-expired}}, undelete the full-resolution version, and move to Commons. Wikiacc () 21:49, 14 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

File:TuvaluCGA.png

File:TuvaluCGA.png (delete | talk | history | links | logs) – uploaded by 718 Bot (notify | contribs | uploads | upload log).

This the logo of the Tuvalu Commonwealth Games Association (an organisation), not of the Tuvalu team themselves, as at the Games they use the Tuvalu flag. As such, it's not a logo of the entity in question, and so fails WP:NFCC#8. Joseph2302 (talk) 09:00, 9 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

File:ManxCGA.png

File:ManxCGA.png (delete | talk | history | links | logs) – uploaded by 718 Bot (notify | contribs | uploads | upload log).

This the logo of the Isle of Man Commonwealth Games Association (an organisation), not of the Isle of Man team themselves, as at the Games they use the Isle of Man country flag. As such, it's not a logo of the entity in question or a logo that they used at any of the Games whose articles it's being used on, and so fails WP:NFCC#8 in all articles. Joseph2302 (talk) 09:02, 9 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

File:Frank Farrell 1940s.jpg

File:Frank Farrell 1940s.jpg (delete | talk | history | links | logs) – uploaded by Sticks66 (notify | contribs | uploads | upload log).

There is no evidence that this image is from before 1946 and therefore unaffected by the URAA. A free 1943 image of Frank Farrell is already in use in the article. Felix QW (talk) 11:30, 9 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

File:Fred de Belin.jpg

File:Fred de Belin.jpg (delete | talk | history | links | logs) – uploaded by Gibson Flying V (notify | contribs | uploads | upload log).

Copyright has been restored by the URAA, and the image does not eligible for non-free use due to the availability of this free image from before 1946. Felix QW (talk) 11:50, 9 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

File:Antigua and Baruda Commonwealth Games.png

File:Antigua and Baruda Commonwealth Games.png (delete | talk | history | links | logs) – uploaded by 718 Bot (notify | contribs | uploads | upload log).

This the logo of the Antigua & Barbuda Commonwealth Games Association (an organisation), not of the Antigua & Barbuda team themselves, as at the Games they use the Antigua & Barbuda flag. As such, it's not a logo of the entity in question, and so fails WP:NFCC#8. Use on the 2006 article also fails WP:NFCC#3 (minimal number of non free items) as File:Antigua2006pin.jpg is being used (and is actually specific to the 2006 team). File:TATA IPL Auction 2022 Logo.jpg

File:TATA IPL Auction 2022 Logo.jpg (delete | talk | history | links | logs) – uploaded by Vestrian24Bio (notify | contribs | uploads | upload log).

Same reasons as Wikipedia:Files for discussion/2024 March 22#File:TATA IPL Auction 2024 Logo.jpg, namely this is not a specific article on the auction itself, and so is not the logo of the article as claimed. And therefore fails WP:NFCC#8 as well Joseph2302 (talk) 14:22, 9 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

File:Harry Sunderland.jpg

File:Harry Sunderland.jpg (delete | talk | history | links | logs) – uploaded by Florrie (notify | contribs | uploads | upload log).

No evidence that this image is from before 1 January 1946, from when on Australian photographs have been captured by URAA restoration. A free alternative could be cropped from c:File:1932 Kangaroos.jpeg, or better, from the much higher resolution version of that image available from the National Library of Australia. Felix QW (talk) 15:18, 9 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

File:Harry Tancred.jpg

File:Harry Tancred.jpg (delete | talk | history | links | logs) – uploaded by Sticks66 (notify | contribs | uploads | upload log).

Australian photograph from the 1950s that is still protected in the US due to URAA restoration. A free alternative could for instance be cropped from commons:file:New Zealand rugby league team on May 21, 1921.jpg. Felix QW (talk) 15:26, 9 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

File:Highlandestate-map.jpg

File:Highlandestate-map.jpg (delete | talk | history | links | logs) – uploaded by SMC (notify | contribs | uploads | upload log).

This image is supposedly free in Australia as an anonymous work. However, there is clearly a signature at the bottom and no indication of when the author died. This uncertainty will presumably preclude it from Commons until 2050, although we could restore it as PD in the US only in January 2025, since its US copyright will then have expired after the usual 95 year term. File:The Loud House - Clyde's Dads Howard and Harold.svg

File:The Loud House - Clyde's Dads Howard and Harold.svg (delete | talk | history | links | logs) – uploaded by NickSpark (notify | contribs | uploads | upload log).

This file contains a depiction of the character Clyde McBride, who is not a subject of the article Howard and Harold McBride. It thus fails WP:NFCC#3b (minimal extent of use), as an image of only Howard and Harold would allow sufficient identification. JohnCWiesenthal (talk) 02:49, 10 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep without alteration: Since Clyde McBride is the (adoptive) son of the two characters, he is related to the subject and is useful to the identification of the characters as a part of the family. Cremastra (talk) 22:04, 12 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep without alteration per Cremastra's reasoning. Aspects (talk) 22:51, 14 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The Beatles – 1976 Capitol Records "Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da" / "Julia" single

File:Ob la di Ob la da single cover.jpg (delete | talk | history | links | logs) – uploaded by Rlendog (notify | contribs | uploads | upload log).
File:Julia (Beatles song) sheet music cover.jpg (delete | talk | history | links | logs) – uploaded by Zmbro (notify | contribs | uploads | upload log).

Both files are replaceable with File:BeatlesObLaDiObLaDaJulia.png (already in use at Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da) and thus fail WP:NFCC#1 (no free equivalent). JohnCWiesenthal (talk) 03:06, 10 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

File:Bill Cipher.jpg

File:Bill Cipher.jpg (delete | talk | history | links | logs) – uploaded by 23W (notify | contribs | uploads | upload log).

Although this file is accompanied by critical commentary, the commentary is not about the depicted scene but rather about the depicted character Bill Cipher, thus failing both WP:NFCC#3b (minimal extent of use) and WP:NFCC#8 (contextual significance). Per MOS:TVIMAGE, a screenshot of a significant moment or element from the episode ... may only be used if it meets the non-free content criteria, i.e., (typically) if it is required to illustrate the object of explicit, sourced analytical commentary, and where that commentary needs visual support to be understood. This image can easily be replaced with an image depicting only the character himself, which would more likely meet both WP:NFCC criteria. JohnCWiesenthal (talk) 03:32, 10 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep: the "critical commentary" discusses the début of the character, which is an important feature of the episode. That is, it discusses the idea "début of Bill Cipher" (important scene of episode) rather than the idea "character named Bill Cipher". Cremastra (talk) 22:08, 12 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete not own work, screen grab from TV or similar. Probably meets WP:F9 for speedy deletion. Joseph2302 (talk) 11:20, 10 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Relicense: useful for identifying the subject, should be tagged as fair use. Cremastra (talk) 22:09, 12 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Agree. Anyone could go to a match where he is umpiring and take a photo of him. Or anyone with a photo of him could licence it for use. So fair use would fail WP:NFCC#1, as it almost always does for living people. Joseph2302 (talk) 09:11, 13 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

File:Jagjit Singh Lyallpuri.JPG (delete | talk | history | links | logs) – uploaded by Dharmadhyaksha (notify | contribs | uploads | upload log).

Fails WP:NFCC#1, as we have a free image of him: File:EMS & JS Lyalpuri. Noor Mahal. 27 Oct 1966.jpg. An image of him in later life, which we have very little information about compared to the era around the 1966 photo, does not significantly enhance this article, and so fails WP:NFCC#8. Joseph2302 (talk) 10:16, 10 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

File:JosephCook4.jpg (delete | talk | history | links | logs) – uploaded by Timeshift9 (notify | contribs | uploads | upload log).

According to the signature (visible here, this portrait is by Norman Carter, who died in 1963. Thus Australian copyright will last until 2033 inclusive. The painting has apparently been painted in 1921, which if published then would place it public domain in the US. However, I could not ascertain its exhibition history or whether it was displayed in public where copies could have easily been made, so I am unsure about the US publication timetable. The image is orphaned. Felix QW (talk) 14:42, 10 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

File:MilitaryAviation.jpg

File:MilitaryAviation.jpg (delete | talk | history | links | logs) – uploaded by Per Honor et Gloria (notify | contribs | uploads | upload log).

The file is the book cover of a modern translated version of L'Aviation Militaire written by French aviator Clément Ader (1841 – 1925). French copyright law protects copyright for 70 years since the author's death, so the book's original copy had enter French public domain in 1995 (and immediately, American public domain after the URAA date of 1996-01-01).

It can therefore be seen that the book's original version is already in public domain. The book therefore is a clear violation of WP:NFCC#1, and should be deleted. 廣九直通車 (talk) 03:58, 11 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Delete I cropped the frontispice from the 1911 edition that we have on Commons as a possible replacement. There should be copies in better condition out there, but at least it is something. Felix QW (talk) 12:33, 11 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
This will immediately make the file speedily deletable per WP:CSD#F7, though for completeness (plus the uploader is now inactive) I'd like to give a few more days for comments.廣九直通車 (talk) 08:23, 13 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

File:Christoph Meili 1997-nonfree.jpg

File:Christoph Meili 1997-nonfree.jpg (delete | talk | history | links | logs) – uploaded by ViperSnake151 (notify | contribs | uploads | upload log).

While it meets all ten criterions as amended per non-free content criteria, and new laws came in force since 2020 + exceeding US threshold of originality. Christoph Meili, the person depicted, is still living. Per unacceptable use policy, pictures of people still alive, groups still active, and buildings still standing; provided that taking a new free picture as a replacement (which is almost always considered possible) would serve the same encyclopedic purpose as the non-free image (also includes non-free promotional images) is considered unacceptable. Kys5g talk! 15:01, 11 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

This image is used in a very different way to usual pictures of individuals, which are used to identify their subject. In this case, the image itself is the subject of critical commentary in Threshold of originality as well as in Copyright law of Switzerland, so I think its non-free use rationale is generally sound. However, NFC Criterion 3b calls for minimality of use, and I do think there is an argument to be made that Threshold of originality#Switzerland could refer to the more extensive Copyright law of Switzerland#Lack of originality for the image rather than it being used on both pages. Felix QW (talk) 15:29, 11 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I agree, but the question is the person depicted is living or not. Kys5g talk! 15:39, 11 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Keep: The nominator admits that this image's usage is compliant with the binding NFCC policy, but claims that a guideline example of unacceptable use based on common application of NFCC #1 and #8 is a binding policy. This image is not being used as a depiction of the subject in the image (Christoph Meili). Instead, as mentioned, the image itself is being used as a subject of commentary because it was the subject of copyright case law. If this image were being used on the Christoph Meili in his infobox as a depiction of the person, then that would potentially be a violation of NFCC #1 and #8 per the guidance cited. File:Bakersfield Dancers 1950s.jpg (delete | talk | history | links | logs) – uploaded by Steve Pastor (notify | contribs | uploads | upload log).

The fair-use justification seems dubious, as there is likely some PD photo of 1950s SoCal dancing available at this point due to an unrenewed license (possibly this photo itself — that should be checked before it's deleted). Sdkbtalk 18:14, 11 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Surely Fair Use justifies 2% of a photograph that is so small a portion of a rather large book that this shouldn't be a problem when documenting West Coast Swing. The entire image itself comes from the one of the libraries in either Bakersfield or Santa Monica... It's been fifteen years since I contacted them to try and get a more accurate date for the image, which they could not supply. Again Fair Use where "no suitable replacement is available." This alternate character design is not accompanied by sufficient critical commentary and thus likely violates WP:NFCC#8 (contextual significance). Even if accompanied by critical commentary, stills from animated works for identification/discussion of depicted characters (and not the depicted scene) would most certainly contain multiple non-free background elements in violation of WP:NFCC#3b (minimal extent of use) and should in any event be replaced with a character render containing a transparent background (such as File:Amity Blight.png for the Amity Blight article). JohnCWiesenthal (talk) 01:11, 12 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I believe it would be fairly easy to adjust/fix things in order to overcome both criteria. Critical commentary sufficient to clarify the significance of the character design—as relates to the character's development/growth—can definitely be located and worked into §Character as citations without too much difficulty, which would then clear WP:NFCC#8. As for WP:NFCC#3b, if it is the case that minimal resolution is not sufficient enough, then the file can definitely be updated to feature a version of the image with the character model cut out from the background. — Jamie Eilat (talk) 23:12, 12 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

File:Lynyrd SkynyrdFreeBirdSolo.ogg (delete | talk | history | links | logs) – uploaded by AdamjVogt (notify | contribs | uploads | upload log).

De-PRODding reason from an admin was this: The article states that this is one of the greatest guitar solos of all time. It IS the song, the heart of it. This implies that, per WP:NFC#Audio clips, critical commentary should suffice to save the sample from deletion. However, even with critical commentary, I still doubt that the whole sample itself is significant contextually to the whole nine- or ten-minute song.

The whole sample sure is a portion of "one of the greatest guitar solos", but the whole song (recording) is not about that guitar solo, even as "greatest" as it may have been. The song has lyrics lasting five, six, or seven minutes.

Furthermore, the phrase "one of the greatest guitar solos" and the whole sample provide the same role: driving a reader into seeking the whole, full studio recording... or live one of the same song and letting the reader decide for oneself. Moreover, the 30-second sample either doesn't fully explain why the whole guitar solo is the "greatest" or is more about the portion itself than about the whole guitar solo (or the whole song).

Or, words are enough per WP:FREER to explain (what) the whole song (is about) or... (that) the whole song (is more than just the "greatest guitar solo"), and the sample itself doesn't need to be in the project. Speaking of "greatest", "greatest" can be subjective, yet the sample isn't that adequate, in my opinion. The whole recording at any length does the better explanation than any sample/portion.

In short, even meeting "critical commentary" rule doesn't absolve the sample's potential failures to comply with the whole NFCC, especially the "contextual significance" one. George Ho (talk) 04:56, 16 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

File:James Brown - It's a Man's Man's Man's World.ogg (delete | talk | history | links | logs) – uploaded by RTSthestardust (notify | contribs | uploads | upload log).

De-PRODded for this reason: Annulation de suppression d'audio. L'audio permet au lecteur de connecter la chanson avec l'article en associant le titre à un extrait de la chanson. Helping readers identify the James Brown song It's a Man's Man's Man's World isn't sufficient to absolve the sample's potential failures to be contextually significant the whole song (recording). Rather it does the same thing that free text can do: drive readers into seeking and listening the whole song.

Furthermore, nothing in the sample indicates why omitting the sample from the article would harm readers' understanding of the whole song, honestly. Regardless of familiarity and legacy, I hear lyrics, and music simultaneously, and I hear performance. However, the content given is all I hear, and I still haven't found the sample to fulfillingly help me understand the whole song. Oh, and understanding ≠ identifying. File:Get Ready For This - 2 Unlimited.ogg

File:Get Ready For This - 2 Unlimited.ogg (delete | talk | history | links | logs) – uploaded by The lorax (notify | contribs | uploads | upload log).

De-PRODding rationale was this: Music sample should NOT be deleted as it is necessary to understand the article. Unfortunately, necessity rationale doesn't absolve the sample's potential failure to prove why omitting the sample harms the understanding of the whole song, the omission one part of WP:NFCC#8. The song was initially a composition, but then lyrics were added in another recording.

The whole sample is just music with one spoken line, and its role is the same as what free text already does: drive readers into seeking and then listening (versions of) the whole song. Furthermore, it doesn't fully represent (what) the whole song/composition (is about) and (how) the whole song/composition (had been done). George Ho (talk) 05:24, 16 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

File was de-PRODded per "critical commentary" rationale. However, per WP:NFC#Audio clips, NFCC also applies. As far as the sample is concerned, I hear lyrics, vocal performances, and music. Nothing within the sample indicates why, per WP:NFCC#8, omitting the whole portion harms understanding of the whole song, which has been redone a few or several times by later artists. Furthermore, the free text already helps readers learn what the whole song is about, meaning the sample fails to be irreplaceable by free text. Furthermore, the sample might also fail WP:NFCC#3a for doing the same role that free text does: drive readers into seeking and then listening various recordings of the same song.
