Bubishi is the Okinawan pronunciation of the Chinese Wu Pei Chih, 'Army Account of Military Arts and Science', a medieval compendium of topics loosely related to the martial arts. It contains anatomical diagrams, philosophical essays, and poetry. No author is known; the book is most likely a collection of pieces from various sources put together by an anonymous editor.
A translation of the book into English, somewhat misleadingly-titled Bubishi: the Bible of Karate, has been published in the United States by Patrick McCarthy.
