Aron K. Barbey (born on January 6, 1977) is a cognitive neuroscientist at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He received a Ph.D. in Psychology from Emory University in 2007 and completed a postdoctoral fellowship in cognitive neuroscience at the National Institutes of Health in 2011. His doctoral advisor was Lawrence W. Barsalou and his postdoctoral mentor was Jordan Grafman. Since then, Barbey has held faculty positions at Georgetown University and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where he now directs the Decision Neuroscience Laboratory. His work addresses the neural mechanisms of human thought, reasoning, and decision-making, and their disturbance in psychiatric illness and traumatic brain injury.
