The 1965–66 Iraqi Central Premier League was the 18th season of the Iraqi Central League (the top division of football in central Iraq (i.e. the capital city of Baghdad) from 1948 to 1974), and the first under the name of Premier League. It kicked off on 15 October 1965 and ended on 2 June 1966. This was the first season that featured a double round-robin format where each team played all the other teams in the league twice, once home and once away, meaning each team played ten games. Al-Firqa Al-Thalatha won their first league title, and the first title in the history of the teams that were later merged to form Al-Jaish in 1974. Al-Firqa Al-Thalatha also beat Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya 1–0 in the one-match Al-Muthabara Cup on 9 June 1966.[1]
