2013 Hockey India League, known as Hero Hockey India League and abbreviated as HIL 2013 is the first season of the hockey tournament Hockey India League. Tournament was due to start from January 5 to February 3 but is postponed to January 14 to February 10.[1]. Ranchi Rhinos won the tournament after beating Delhi Waveriders in the Summit Clash at Astroturf Hockey Stadium, Ranchi.
Rules and Regulations
Five teams will take part in the tournament and each team will play three matches against each team, one at their home venue and one at the venue of the opposition team. The third match will be played against the other four teams two at home and two away.[2]
The points in the league phase of the tournament will be awarded as follows:

Loss with goal difference of 3 or more goals | 0 points |
If at the end of the League two or more teams have the same number of points for any place, these teams will be ranked according to the following order:[3]
- respective number of matches won;
- respective goal difference (goals for less goals against). A positive goal difference always takes precedence over a negative one;
- respective number of goals scored;
- the cumulative results of the two matches played between those two teams taking firstly the points won in the two matches, secondly the goal difference, and thirdly the number of goals scored
Venues
Five venues have been selected for Hockey India League which will serve as home grounds for each franchise:
- Astroturf Hockey Stadium, Ranchi
- Dhyan Chand Astroturf Stadium, Lucknow
- Dhyan Chand National Stadium, New Delhi
- Mahindra Hockey Stadium, Mumbai
- Surjeet Hockey Stadium, Jalandhar
The semi-final, 3rd/4th place playoff and the final of 2013 HIL will be played on 9 and 10 February at Astroturf Hockey Stadium in Ranchi.[4]
Players' Auction
The players' auction for first season of HIL will took place on December 16 in New Delhi.[5] A total of 246 players were available for the auction out of which 120 players were bought by the franchises which include 50 foreign and 70 local players.[6]
