The 2016 Premier League of America season is the 104th season of FIFA-sanctioned soccer in the United States, and the second season of the PLA, but its first under the new name. The season begins in May 2016.

Departing Founders

Having originally been denied entry by the National Premier Soccer League for the 2015 season, AFC Ann Arbor and Grand Rapids FC made the move to that league for the 2016 season, it was announced in September 2015.

Expansion

Milwaukee Bavarians were announced as the first expansion team in May 2015. Toledo United FC followed in July of the same year. A third expansion team, Ole SC in the Grand Rapids suburb of Wyoming was added in October. A fourth was added in November when Madison 56ers were added. The fifth, sixth and seventh expansion teams were added in December, as Carpathia FC of Sterling Heights, Michigan, Aris SC of La Crosse, Wisconsin and Minnesota United FC Reserves of Woodbury, Minnesota were added.

Format

The league format will be a geographical split of two divisions, with an end-of-season championship playoff.
