The 2020 FIA Formula 2 Championship is planned to be the fourth season of the FIA Formula 2 Championship, a motor racing championship for Formula 2 cars that is sanctioned by the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA). It is an open-wheel racing category that serves as the second tier of formula racing in the FIA Global Pathway. The category is scheduled to be run in support of the 2020 FIA Formula One World Championship Grands Prix. As the championship is a spec series, all teams and drivers competing in the championship will run the same car, the Dallara F2 2018, in what is expected to be the last year of use for the car in the championship.[1]

Changes

Technical changes

For the first time in the history of the championship, the series will switch from running 13-inch tyres to larger 18-inch tyres. This has been done with the aim of allowing Formula One tyre supplier Pirelli to gain a season of racing experience with the larger tyres, and boost knowledge of how the new tyres would work, ahead of Formula One's transition to the new tyres in 2021.[2]
