Rafael Nadal is the reigning champion,[1] but withdrew due to a left hip injury. This is the first time that 14-time champion Nadal has missed the tournament since his debut in 2005.[2] With his withdrawal, Nadal will fall out of the top 100 of the ATP rankings for the first time since 2003.[3]

Carlos Alcaraz, Daniil Medvedev, Novak Djokovic, and Stefanos Tsitsipas are in contention for the ATP no. 1 singles ranking.[4]

Djokovic is vying to win a record 23rd major singles title. He is also vying to become the first man in history to achieve the triple career Grand Slam.
