Taiju Shiratori (白鳥大珠, Shiratori Taiju, born February 2, 1996) is a Japanese kickboxer and former boxer fighting out of Tokyo, Japan. He is the former RISE Lightweight champion.
As of November 2020, he is ranked the #7 ranked bantamweight in the world, according to Combat Press.[1]
Kickboxing career
Muay thai career
Shiratori had a mixed start to his muay thai career, amassing a 5-3-1 record over the course of his first nine fights. Following this run, however, he won the fights in a row, against Klasik Sitchansing and Takuro, which earned him the chane to fight Takahito Fujimaki for the WPMF Japan Super Featherweight title. Shiratori won the fight by unanimous decision.[2]
He would lose his next two fights against Seo Dong Pong and Tsuyoshi M16 Muaythaistyle by TKO.[3]
RISE Lightweight title reign
Shiratori made his promotional debut at RISE 125, against Kazuma. He managed to knock Kazuma out with a left straight in the very last second of the first round.[4] Shiratori followed up on this victory with a decision win against Tomohiro Kitai at RISE 129 and a third-round knockout of Yoshiya Uzatsuyo at Rizin - Heisei's Last Yarennoka!.[5]
Shiratori fought Hideki for the vacant RISE Lightweight title at RISE 130. He won the fight by a third-round TKO.[6]
RISE World Series
In July 2019 Taiju participated in the RISE World Series tournament. In the tournament quarterfinal, Shiratori beat Hector Santiago by an extra round decision.[7] He earned the biggest win of his career during the semi-finals, when he defeated Rajadamnern Stadium champion Saeksan Or. Kwanmuang.[8] On September 16, 2019 Shiratori won the RISE World Series -61kg Tournament, and the 10 million yen cash prize, by defeating Genji Umeno in the first round of the tournament final.[9]
After winning the tournament, Shiratori fought back-to-back matches with Taiga Kawabe at Rizin 19 - Osaka and Rizin 20 - Saitama, winning the first match by unanimous decision and the second by second-round TKO.[10][11] In July 2020, Shiratori fought Sho Ogawa, whom he beat by unanimous decision, after an extra round was fought.[12]
RISE Dead or Alive tournament
Shiratori took part in the 2020 RISE DoA tournament, being scheduled to fight Naoki Tanaka in the semifinal. Despite coming into the fight as a favorite, Shiratori suffered an upset loss, as Tanaka won the fight by TKO, due to a doctor stoppage.[13]
Boxing career
Shiratori made his boxing debut against Nao Sugawara on May 6, 2015. He won the fight by knockout. Shiratori would go on to win eight of his next ten boxing matches, before challenging Izuki Tomioka for the Japanese Youth Lightweight.
