The My Hero Academia manga and anime series features a vast world with an extensive cast of characters created by Kōhei Horikoshi. The series takes place in a fictional world where, currently, more than 80% of the Earth's population possesses some form of superhuman ability, commonly referred to as a "Quirk" the advent of these abilities has given rise to not only professional heroes, but also the threat of villains.


U.A. High School students

Class 1-A students

Izuku Midoriya (緑谷 出久, Midoriya Izuku) / Deku (デク, Deku)
Voiced by: Daiki Yamashita[1] (Anime and Vomic), Akeno Watanabe (Anime; young), Yuna Taniguchi (Vomic; young) (Japanese); Justin Briner, Lara Woodhull (young)[2] (English)
The main protagonist of the series. After attempting to save Bakugō from a villain, Izuku, an initially Quirkless boy, is chosen by All Might to become the ninth holder of One For All (ワン・フォー・オール, Wan Fō Ōru), a transferable Quirk that stockpiles physical strength and grants immense strength and speed. Eventually, Izuku becomes the first user to manifest a psychic link with the spirits of past One For All users as well as inherit their Quirks.[3]
Katsuki Bakugou (爆豪 勝己, Bakugō Katsuki) / Dynamight (ダイナマイト, Dainamaito)

Katsuki is Izuku's hot-headed childhood friend turned arch-rival and classmate in Class 1-A. Despite bullying Izuku in the past, over the course of the series he grows to care for Izuku's well-being, especially as Izuku's power grows.[5] He possesses the Quirk Explosion (爆破, Bakuha) giving his sweat explosive nitroglycerin-like properties at which he can detonate at will.
Ochaco Uraraka (麗日 お茶子, Uraraka Ochako) / Uravity (ウラビティ, Urabiti)
Voiced by: Ayane Sakura[4] (Japanese); Luci Christian[2] (English)
A positive girl whose Quirk, Zero Gravity (無重力(ゼログラビティ), Zero Gurabiti) allows her to make any object she touches with all five of her fingers, on one hand, to become weightless. She harbors romantic feelings towards Izuku, but decides to keep them private to focus on her goal to become a hero.[6]
Tenya Iida (飯田 天哉, Iida Ten'ya) / Ingenium (インゲニウム, Ingeniumu)
Voiced by: Kaito Ishikawa[4] (Japanese); J. Michael Tatum[2] (English)
The straight-laced Class Representative whose Quirk is Engine (エンジン, Enjin) which gives him super-speed via jet engines in his calves. He also uses them to kick people. After his older brother Tensei is forced to retire due to being critically injured by the Hero Killer Stain, Tenya decides to take up his brother's mantle after much contemplation.[7]
Shōto Todoroki (轟 焦凍, Todoroki Shōto) / Shoto (ショート, Shōto)
Voiced by: Yūki Kaji, Kei Shindō, (young)[8] (Japanese); David Matranga, Mikaela Krantz (young)[2] (English)
A student in Class 1-A. His Quirk is Half-Cold Half-Hot (半冷半燃, Hanrei Hannen), which allows him to generate ice from the right side of his body and fire from the left. He is the youngest child of Endeavor, and because of his harsh upbringing, he tries to avoid using his pyrokinesis (inherited from his father) as much as possible.
Eijirō Kirishima (切島 鋭児郎, Kirishima Eijirō) / Red Riot (レッドライオット, Reddo Raiotto)

A boisterous student in Class 1-A whose Quirk Hardening (硬化, Kōka) allows him to harden his body.[10]
Tsuyu Asui (蛙吹 梅雨, Asui Tsuyu) / Froppy (フロッピー, Furoppi)

An overly sincere frog girl in Class 1-A. Her Quirk Frog (, Kaeru) gives her abilities such as enhanced swimming and jumping, sticking to and climbing up walls, and a long prehensile tongue.
Momo Yaoyorozu (八百万 百, Yaoyorozu Momo) / Creati (クリエイティ, Kurieiti)

A student of Class 1-A, whose Quirk is Creation (創造, Sōzō), giving her the ability to create any non-biological object from the lipids stored in her body as long as she knows its molecular structure.
Minoru Mineta (峰田 実, Mineta Minoru) / Grape Juice (グレープジュース, Gurēpu Jūsu)
Voiced by: Ryō Hirohashi[4] (Japanese); Brina Palencia[2] (English)
A diminutive, lecherous boy whose Quirk Pop Off (もぎもぎ, Mogimogi) grows many small, highly adhesive grape-like balls on his head that he can remove and use as weapons or as a trampoline, since the detached balls bounce off his body rather than sticking to him. Overuse of his Quirk will result in blood gushing out of his head.
Denki Kaminari (上鳴 電気, Kaminari Denki) / Chargebolt (チャージズマ, Chājizuma)
Voiced by: Tasuku Hatanaka[9] (Japanese); Kyle Phillips[2] (English)
A boy whose Quirk Electrification (帯電, Taiden) allows him to absorb and emit electricity at the cost of causing his brain to short circuit.
Kyōka Jirō (耳郎 響香, Jirō Kyōka) / Earphone Jack (イヤホンジャック, Iyahon Jakku)
Voiced by: Kei Shindō[8] (Japanese); Trina Nishimura[2] (English); Chrissy Costanza (singing, both languages)
A girl in Class 1-A whose Quirk Earphone Jack (イヤホンジャック, Iyahon Jakku) which allows her to plug her extremely long earlobes into objects to listen to sounds or transmit the sound of her own heartbeat. During the U.A. School Festival, Kyoka was the lead singer for Class 1-A's performance.[11]
Fumikage Tokoyami (常闇 踏陰, Tokoyami Fumikage) / Tsukuyomi (ツクヨミ)

A quiet crow-headed student in 1-A whose Quirk Dark Shadow (黒影(ダークシャドウ), Dāku Shadō) gives him control of a sentient shadow that grows more powerful with darkness.
Mina Ashido (芦戸 三奈, Ashido Mina) / Pinky (ピンキー, Pinkī)
Voiced by: Eri Kitamura[8] (Japanese); Caitlin Glass[2] (English)
An upbeat alien-like girl in Class 1-A whose Quirk Acid (, San) allows her to excrete an acidic fluid from her body. As a middle schooler, she chased away a giant villain threatening her friends while Eijiro Kirishima stood paralyzed with fear.[12]
Yūga Aoyama (青山 優雅, Aoyama Yūga) / Can't Stop Twinkling (キラキラが止められないよ, Kirakira ga Tomerarenaiyo)

A flamboyant boy whose Quirk is Navel Laser (ネビルレーザー, Nebiru Rēzā) which allows him to fire a laser blast from his belly button. He feels a sense of kinship with Izuku due to both of their quirks causing themselves bodily harm; in Aoyama's case, overuse of his quirk gives him stomachaches.[13]
Mezō Shōji (障子 目蔵, Shōji Mezō) / Tentacole (テンタコル, Tentakoru)

A student whose Quirk Dupli-Arms (複製腕, Fukuseiwan) allows him to grow individual body organs at the tips of four webbed tentacles growing from his shoulders.
Hanta Sero (瀬呂 範太, Sero Hanta) / Cellophane (セロファン, Serofan)

A boy whose Quirk Tape (テープ, Tēpu) allows him to shoot cellophane tape from his tape dispenser-like elbows.
Mashirao Ojiro (尾白 猿夫, Ojiro Mashirao) / Tailman (テイルマン, Teiruman)

A student whose Quirk Tail (尻尾, Shippo) grants him a thick prehensile tail.
Kōji Kōda (口田 甲司, Kōda Kōji) / Anima (アニマ)

A student with rock-like skin whose Quirk Anivoice (生き物ボイス, Ikimono Boisu) allows him to talk with animals though mute verbally to humans.
Rikidō Satō (砂藤 力道, Satō Rikidō) / Sugarman (シュガーマン, Shugāman)

A student whose Quirk Sugar Rush (シュガードープ, Shugā Dōpu) gives him enhanced strength but less cognitive ability whenever he consumes sugar. He is also a gifted cake baker, in order to make the most of his Quirk.
Tōru Hagakure (葉隠 透, Hagakure Tōru) / Invisible Girl (インビジブルガール, Inbijiburu Gāru)

A student in Class 1-A whose Quirk Invisibility (透明化, Tōmeika) makes her entire body invisible, as well as giving her the ability to refract light.[15]

Class 1-B students

Neito Monoma (物間 寧人, Monoma Neito) / Phantom Thief (ファントムシーフ, Fantomu Shīfu)

A student whose Quirk Copy (コピー, Kopi) allows him to temporarily use a Quirk after touching its user. For unknown reasons, he harbors an intense dislike of Class 1-A and occasionally comes up with plans for him or his class to upstage them.[16]
Itsuka Kendō (拳藤 一佳, Kendō Itsuka) / Battle Fist (バトルフィスト, Batoru Fisuto)

The Class Representative of Class 1-B whose Quirk Large Fists (大拳, Daiken) allows Itsuka to enlarge her fists.
Ibara Shiozaki (塩崎 茨, Shiozaki Ibara) / Vine (ヴァイン, Vain)

A girl whose Quirk Vines (ツル, Tsuru) allows Ibara to grow vines from her hair that she can extend and use in combat.
Tetsutetsu Tetsutetsu (鉄哲 徹鐵, Tetsutetsu Tetsutetsu) / Real Steel (リアルスティール, Riaru Sutīru)

A student whose Quirk Steel (スティール, Sutīru) allows Tetsutetsu to temporarily turn his skin into steel. Because of the similarity between their Quirks, he and Kirishima develop a rivalry.
Jūzō Honenuki (骨抜 柔造, Honenuki Jūzō) / Mudman (マッドマン, Maddoman)

A boy whose Quirk Softening (柔化, Yawaraka) enables him to soften anything that he touches.

A student with a speech bubble for a head whose Quirk Comic (コミック, Komikku) allows him to manifest different onomatopoeias into reality in the form of katakana.

Third Year students

Mirio Togata (通形 ミリオ, Tōgata Mirio) / Lemillion (ルミリオン, Rumirion)
Voiced by: Tarusuke Shingaki,[17] Wakana Minami (young) (Japanese); Ricco Fajardo, Megan Shipman (young)[18] (English)
Mirio is one of the three top students in U.A. His former Quirk Permeation (透過, Tōka) allowed him to phase his body through anything solid, including the ground itself. He loses his quirk temporarily during the Kai Chisaki raid mission,[19] but returns to action to join his fellow students and the Pro Heroes against the Paranormal Liberation Front.[20]
Tamaki Amajiki (天喰 環, Amajiki Tamaki) / Suneater (サンイーター, San'ītā)

One of the three top students in U.A., whose Quirk Manifest (再現, Saigen) gives him the properties and abilities of anything he eats.[21]
Nejire Hadō (波動 ねじれ, Hadō Nejire) / Nejire-chan (ねじれちゃん, Nejire-chan)

One of the three top students in U.A., who can generate spiral-like shockwaves with her Quirk Wave Motion (波動, Hadō).

Mei Hatsume (発目 明, Hatsume Mei)

Mei is a student from the Support Course whose Quirk is Zoom (ズーム, Zūmu), which allows her to zoom her vision to up to 5 kilometers. She is a genius inventor.
Hitoshi Shinsō (心操 人使, Shinsō Hitoshi)
Voiced by: Wataru Hatano (Japanese); Jarrod Greene (English)
Hitoshi is a student from the General Course who is eventually accepted into the Hero Course.[22] His Quirk is Brainwashing (洗脳, Sen'nō), which allows him to control those who answer his questions, something with which he has struggled his entire life as it is seen as a "villainous" Quirk despite his heroic intentions.

Pro Heroes

Top Heroes

Enji Todoroki (轟 炎司, Todoroki Enji) / Endeavor (エンデヴァー, Endevā)
Voiced by: Tetsu Inada (Japanese); Patrick Seitz (English)
A Hero with immense flame powers from his Quirk Hell Flame (ヘルフレイム, Heru Fureimu) who is the father of Shoto and his three older siblings and the husband of Rei. He has a strained relationship with his children from years of projecting onto them his obsession with surpassing All Might as the number 1 hero (especially Shoto, whose powerful Quirk led Endeavor to train him with this specific goal in mind), though he later tries to fix it after becoming the number 1 hero by default, following All Might's forced retirement.[23] However, his reputation is severely damaged after his son Toya reveals himself as Dabi and exposes some of his past to the public.
Keigo Takami (鷹見 啓悟, Takami Keigo) / Hawks (ホークス, Hōkusu)
Voiced by: Yuichi Nakamura[24] (Japanese); Zeno Robinson (English)
A young Pro Hero, whose Quirk is Fierce Wings (剛翼, Gōyoku) which grants him a pair of red feathered wings that allow him to fly, as well as the ability to manipulate detached feathers from a distance. He infiltrates the Paranormal Liberation Front as a double agent. After being discovered to be a traitor, he is severely burned by Dabi, but is later rescued by Tokoyami.[25]
Tsunagu Hakamata (袴田 維, Hakamata Tsunagu) / Best Jeanist (ベストジー二スト, Besuto Jīnisuto)
Voiced by: Hikaru Midorikawa[26] (Japanese); Micah Solusod (English)
A hero who has the Quirk Fiber Master (ファイバーマスター, Faibā Masutā), allowing him to control the fibers in clothes. He disappears for a while after faking his death so that Hawks gains the trust of the League of Villains,[27] later returning after Hawks' work as a double agent is completed.[28]
Shinya Kamihara (紙原 伸也, Kamihara Shinya) / Edgeshot (エッジショット, Ejjishotto)
Voiced by: Kenta Kamakari (Japanese); John Burgmeier (English)
A hero whose Quirk Foldabody (紙肢, Shishi) enables him to manipulate the thinness of his body.
Rumi Usagiyama (兎山 ルミ, Usagiyama Rumi) / Mirko (ミルコ)
Voiced by: Yōko Hikasa (Japanese); Anairis Quinones (English)
A young woman whose Quirk Rabbit (, Usagi) gives her rabbit like features such as enhanced leg strength and big rabbit-like ears. She is heavily wounded by several Nomus after the raid on Jaku Hospital, including losing an arm and a leg.[29]
Shinji Nishiya (西屋 森児, Nishiya Shinji) / Kamui Woods (シンリンカムイ, Shinrin Kamui)

A Hero clad in wooden armor who whose Quirk Arbor (樹木, Jumoku) gives him the ability to manipulate his tree-like limbs.
Ryuko Tatsuma (竜間 龍子, Tatsuma Ryūko) / Ryukyu (リューキュウ, Ryūkyū)
Voiced by: Kaori Yagi (Japanese); Katelyn Barr (English)
A hero who takes Nejire Hado, Ochaco Uraraka, and Tsuyu Asui as her interns. Her Quirk Dragon (ドラゴン, Doragon) enables her to turn into a european dragon.

Faculty of U.A.

Toshinori Yagi (八木 俊典, Yagi Toshinori) / All Might (オールマイト, Ōru Maito)
Voiced by: Kenta Miyake (Anime),[1] Tesshō Genda[1] (Vomic) (Japanese); Christopher Sabat[2] (English)
The eighth user of One For All, he is referred to by many as the Symbol of Peace (平和の象徴, Heiwa no Shōchō). Due to the crippling injury he sustained from fighting All For One in the past, he ultimately selects Izuku as his successor. In his rematch with All For One, All Might lost the ability to use One For All completely.[31]
Nezu (根津)
Voiced by: Yasuhiro Takato (Japanese); Jerry Jewell (English)
An humanoid stoat who is the principal of U.A. and one of a few non-human animals to develop a Quirk. His Quirk is High Spec (ハイスペック, Hai Supekku), which allows him to have anthropomorphic abilities and extreme intelligence.
Shōta Aizawa (相澤 消太, Aizawa Shōta) / Eraser Head (イレイザーヘッド, Ireizā Heddo)
Voiced by: Junichi Suwabe[32] (Japanese); Alex Organ (Season 1), Christopher Wehkamp[33] (Season 2–present) (English)
Class 1-A's home teacher whose Quirk Erasure (抹消, Masshō) allows him to nullify others' Quirks within his sight until he blinks. Because using his Quirk strains his eyes, he is impatient and has a constantly tired appearance.
Hizashi Yamada (山田 ひざし, Yamada Hizashi) / Present Mic (プレゼントマイク, Purezento Maiku)
Voiced by: Hiroyuki Yoshino[32] (Japanese); Sonny Strait[2] (Season 1), Dave Trosko (Season 2–present) (English)
The school's English teacher whose Quirk Voice (ヴォイス, Voisu) amplifies his voice using an jukebox-like collar. In the anime, Present Mic occasionally breaks the fourth wall by explaining a character's Quirk.
Sekijirō Kan (管 赤慈郎, Kan Sekijirō) / Vlad King (ブラドキング, Burado Kingu)

The homeroom teacher for Class 1-B. His Quirk is Blood Control (操血, Sōketsu), which allows him to control his blood after it leaves his body.
Chiyo Shuuzenji (修善寺 治与, Shūzenji Chiyo) / Recovery Girl (リカバリーガール, Rikabarī Gāru)

The elderly school nurse whose Quirk is Heal (回復, Kaifuku), allowing her to heal others' injuries by kissing them.
Nemuri Kayama (香山 睡, Kayama Nemuri) / Midnight (ミッドナイト, Middonaito)

The main antagonists of the series. Previously known as League of Villains (敵連合, Viran Rengō), Tomura transitions the League into the Paranormal Liberation Front after defeating the Meta Liberation Army and adding its surviving members into their ranks.

Tenko Shimura (志村 転弧, Shimura Tenko) / Tomura Shigaraki (死柄木 弔, Shigaraki Tomura)

The main antagonist of the series. Tenko is the grandson of All Might's mentor Nana Shimura who became All for One's apprentice after he accidentally murdered his family when his touch-based Quirk Decay (崩壊, Hōkai) which allows him to destroy whatever he touches with his five fingers, manifested.[46] After an experimental treatment by Dr. Garaki, Tomura now wields the original quirk All For One, but at the cost of having his body and mind taken over by his master, All For One.[47]
Shigaraki (死柄木, Shigaraki) / All For One (オール・フォー・ワン, Wamuu)

An mutated villain who is All Might's nemesis and one of the first Quirk users, his Quirk All For One (オール・フォー・ワン, Ōru Fō Wan) allows him to both steal and bestow Quirks. He desires to steal One For All because it originated from his younger brother and is the only Quirk that defies him. The purpose of every One For All user is to overthrow All For One. Five years before Izuku inherited One For All, All For One and All Might fought a duel where the two opponents incurred crippling injuries. Although All Might won, All For One survived the attack, gets sent to Tartarus prison and seeks vengeance on All Might.
Oboro Shirakumo (白雲 朧, Shirakumo Oboro) / Kurogiri (黒霧, lit. "Black Fog")

The mist-headed Tomura's caretaker and the League's second-in command, who wields the portal-based Quirk Warp Gate (ワープゲート, Wāpu Gēto). He is later revealed to be a Nomu created from the corpse of Aizawa's classmate, Loud Cloud (ラウドクラウド, Raudo Kuraudo).[50]
Dr. Kyudai Garaki (殻木 球大, Garaki Kyūdai Hakase) / Daruma Ujiko (氏子 達磨, Ujiko Daruma)

A scientist who creates the Nomus and served as All for One's personal doctor, possessing a longevity Quirk that makes him appear years younger than he really is. Kai Chisaki (治崎 廻, Chisaki Kai) / Overhaul (オーバーホール, Tiziano)

The current leader of the Shie Hassaikai yakuza gang and the foster child of the unnamed former boss. As the leader of the Shie Hassaiki, he amassed followers by recruiting people who were abandoned by society.[61] His Quirk Overhaul (オーバーホール, Ōbāhōru) enables him to use his arms to manipulate matter, either to disassemble or absorb others.
Danjuro Tobita (飛田 弾柔郎, Tobita Danjūrō) / Gentle Criminal (ジェントル・クリミナル, Jentoru Kuriminaru)

A young boy who lost his Hero parents, the Water Hose duo, to Muscular, and was taken in by the Pussycats due to Mandalay being his aunt.

Eri is the granddaughter of the unnamed former boss of the Shie Hassaikai and adopted daughter of Chisaki, who used her blood in order to create "Quirk-destroying bullets."[71] Her Quirk Rewind (人を巻き戻す, Hito o Maki Modosu) allows her to bring an individual's body to a previous state. The only downside of this quirk is she can't control it. After being saved from Chisaki, Eri is taken into the care and protection of U.A. High School. And because Izuku allowed her to attend the U.A. School Festival, Eri brought her smile back for the first time in her life and is finally freed from Overhaul's ghost.
Rei Todoroki (轟 冷, Todoroki Rei)

Mother to Shoto Todoroki and his siblings, she currently resides in a mental hospital after burning Shoto with hot water during a mental breakdown, Shoto gets his ice powers from her.
