Early life

Anthony's father died when he was four years old, resulting in him being raised primarily by his mother. After beginning to serve Mass as a child, he visited a seminary and enjoyed the experience so much he decided to enter high school seminary at Mary, Help of Christians Seminary. He graduated in 1993, and at the invitation of bishop Raymundo Peña moved to the United States. He began theological studies at the University of Saint Mary of the Lake and graduated in 1997. On June 9, 1997, Celino was ordained to the priesthood.

Priesthood

Celino's first assignment following his ordination was as parochial vicar at St. Patrick Cathedral in El Paso. He also served as moderator of the curia, diocesan chancellor, and as assistant to the apostolic administrator before Mark Seitz was appointed bishop of El Paso in 2013.[1]
