Attaullah Tarar (Urdu/Template:Lang-pnb) is a Pakistani politician and lawyer. He Served as Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (SAPM) on interior and legal affairs with the status of federal minister under the cabinet of Shehbaz Sharif. He also served as Spokes Person of Punjab Government and Home Minister of Punjab in the Cabinet of that time Chief Minister Punjab Mian Hamza Shehbaz Sharif in 2022. He is a Deputy Secretary General of Pakistan Muslim League (N) [1]

Early life and education

Tarar was born into a Punjabi Jat family of the Tarar clan to Muhammad Farooq Tarar.[2] He is a paternal grandson of Muhammad Rafiq Tarar, who served as the president of Pakistan from 1998 to 2001.[3] His younger brother, Bilal Farooq Tarar, was a member of the Punjab provincial assembly from 2018 to 2023.[4][2] His aunt, Saira Afzal Tarar, has served as a federal minister and member of the National Assembly.[2]

He has done his LLB (Honours) from the University of London.[5]

Political career

Tarar holds the position of Deputy Secretary-General in the Pakistan Muslim League (N) (PML-N).[1] He began his career in politics as the Home minister of Punjab and a spokesperson for the Punjab government under the brief chief ministership of Hamza Shahbaz in early 2022.[1]

On 28 July 2022, Tarar was appointed as Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (SAPM) on narcotics control in the cabinet of Shehbaz Sharif.[1]
