James Black (18 September 1873 – 6 May 1920) was a New Zealand cricketer who played for Otago. He was born in Dunedin and died in Auckland.

Black made a single first-class appearance for the side, during the 1895–86 season, against New South Wales. From the lower order, he scored 2 runs in the first innings in which he batted, and 3 not out in the second.
