Co-founded by Shanghai University (SHU) and University of Technology Sydney (UTS) in 1994, SHU-UTS SILC Business School (SILC) was one of the earliest Sino-foreign joint business schools in China. The School was founded in alignment with Regulations of the People's Republic of China on Chinese-Foreign Cooperation in Running Schools. By allowing establishment of Sino-foreign education joint ventures and programs, the Ministry of Education aims to introduce international high quality education resources, learn the philosophy, system, and operation of overseas universities, promote the reform of universities in China, and eventually build world-class Chinese universities. When the School was founded in 1994, it only offered English language courses and diploma programs

SILC employs over 160 faculty and staff. About 3,500 students are currently studying at SILC.[1]

Undergraduate Program

Bachelor of Management (major in Business Administration) This program aims to develop students who have a good grasp of the basic theories of management and economics, have basic operational knowledge and capabilities in business administration, economy, law, market analysis and enterprise management, and are familiar with the related guidelines, policies and regulations on business management in China as well as practices and rules of international business management. Upon graduation, students shall be qualified for management and research in government agencies, foreign-related enterprises and institutes, education administration departments and foreign enterprises and become senior teaching personnel. The program duration is four years.

Bachelor of Management (major in Information Management & Information System) This program aims to develop students who have theoretical knowledge and application ability of modern management, information science and computer science, have a good grasp of systematic analysis and design methods of theoretical and informational system as well as the knowledge and ability of information management, etc., and possess professional knowledge and application ability of management, economics, law and business management. They shall also have the information collection, analysis as well as development and utilization ability. Students are expected to master practical ability in computer usage and be able to skillfully use computer to carry out business activities and keep abreast with the latest IT development trend. The program duration is four years.

Bachelor of Economics (major in International Economics & Trade) This program aims to develop students who have a systematic grasp of the basic principles and methods of Marx economics and Western Economics, have a good command of the basic knowledge and skills of international economics and trade, understand the current status of international economic and trade development, and are familiar with the prevailing international trade rules and practices, foreign trade policies and regulations in China as well as their latest development. Students are expected to be able to carry out research and study by means of measurement, statistics, accounting, and other methods. The program duration is four years.[2]

Master Program

Master of Finance (MFin) is a two-year course that provides a comprehensive range of skills and expertise expected of leading practitioners in the banking and finance sectors. The finance program provides participants with the opportunity to acquire knowledge of finance theory and techniques for leading-edge professional practice purposes.

Master of Engineering Management (MEM) is a 1.3 year course that is specifically designed to emphasize the interface between engineering, technology and management. The integration of carefully tailored coursework and an independent project delivers graduates who understand the professional, societal and environmental context and have developed a range of management and engineering capabilities to respond to it. The language of tuition is Modern Standard Chinese.
