In November 2016, Keegan was announced as Manager of Galway United on a two-year contract, joining from Wexford Youths, where he spent five seasons in charge.[1][2]

Keegan's first season in charge of Galway United resulted in the club being relegated from the League of Ireland Premier Division.[3] That same season he guided his side to the semi-final of the EA Sports Cup where they lost 3-0 to Dundalk.[4] His side also made it to the quarter-finals of the FAI Cup but were beaten 2-1 by Limerick.[5]

Shane's playing career started at Clover Utd of the Kilkenny and District League. Shane was a skillful dynamic midfield player with an eye for a pass. Despite his small statue, Shane could boss a midfield. His unique running style earned him the nickname "Chicken Legs" The clover Utd Faithful, still sings songs about him to this day. Injury ended his playing days early but Shane moved into coaching at under age level in Kilkennys development sides and began his UEFA Coaching badges.
