Baral is a surname found in people from Nepal as well as a small number of Jews from Poland.

There are over 100,000 Nepalese Barals who mainly constitute Khas people of over 70% Brahmin, 15% Chhetri, 10% Rajputs and the remaining 5% Brahmin-Chhetri castes in Nepal

The surname Baral is found predominantly in India in individuals from the Khandayat, landed militia community in Odisha. The people with surname Baral/Boral in present West Bengal are ethnic Bengali people , originally hailing from village of Saptagram (present day Hooghly district).

Background

Baral of Nepal - Barals in Nepal are mainly Bahuns and some Chetris. Barals are much fewer in number but can trace direct lineage to the indigenous kings who ruled some areas of Midwestern Nepal before the unification of Nepal by Prithivi Narayan Shah.

Jewish Barals are believed to have descended from the Baal Shemtov
