Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Shivaragudda (JNVS) is a residential school near Maddur, Mandya, India. JNVS is funded by the Indian Ministry of Human Resources Development.[1] JNV Mandya is affiliated with C.B.S.E.[2]
History
The school was established in the year 1986 in the campus of Shivaragudda vidyapeeta by the Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti, an autonomous body which comes under the Ministry of Human Resource and Development New Delhi. Navodaya Vidyalaya is the dream child of late Shri Rajiv Gandhi, the Ex-Prime Minister of India. JNV Mandya, as it is fondly called, is now situated at the fort hills of Shivara, the historically important of lord Shiva named "Sri Gangadhareshwara Temple". The Vidyalaya is 18 km away from the district headquarters.
The JNV Migration program which encourages the exchange of 33% of the students in 9th grade for this school is associated with JNV of Haridwar.
Campus
School stands on a 30 acres (12 ha) campus at Shivaragudda. The campus has ample infrastructure with an administration Block, main class room buildings, Laboratory building, workshops, teachers' quarters, students' dormitories, principal's house, guest house, 2 dining halls, sports ground, Power house, water tank.
Awards and recognition
- S Nagaraj (TGT Kannada) received Best Teacher Award from Hon.President of India (Dr A P J Abdul Kalam) in the year 2005.
Alumni Association
NESA Mandya
Alumni association registered itself in the name of Navodaya Ex-Students Association(NESAM), Mandya in the year 2011 and became an active participant of school's ongoing activity and a guidance association for the current students.[3]
First Sunday of December every year the Alumni Meet is conducted in the Vidyalaya.
Houses
Previously there were 5 houses for boys (Rajiv, Tippu, Nehru, Paramahamsa and Vishweshvaraih) and 4 houses for girls (Ganga, Kaveri, Shravathi and Yamuna).
Now the houses are renamed and it's same for all the JNV's all over India. Aravali, Nilgiri, Shivalik and Udaygiri.
