Lehigh Defense is an American ammunition manufacturer, located in Quakertown, Pennsylvania.[1][2][3] Lehigh Defense is a global leader in bullet technology. They currently offer over 200 unique solid copper bullets, and hold 12 patents on bullet design.[4]
Lehigh's most notable bullet technology is the Maximum Expansion (ME), a .308 caliber, 201 grain expanding subsonic rifle bullet which is used by several Special Operations Forces. Lehigh has produced over 6 million ME bullets for US and allied militaries. Additionally, Lehigh Defense patented Fluid Transfer Monolithic (FTM) technology[5]. On impact with a soft target the "flutes" on the bullet ogive channel tissue and fluid radially from the bullet's path causing wounding similar to hollow-point bullets. The main benefit of an FTM bullet is that it penetrates intermediate barriers significantly better than a lead core bullet.
Aside from solid copper bullets, Lehigh Defense is a leading manufacturer of Armor Piercing and Reactive Ammunition currently in service with Special Operations Forces around the world.
Lehigh Defense acquired SSK Industries in 2019, and has re-branded it SSK Firearms.[citation needed]
