Hu Xiaoyuan
Hu Xiaoyuan (Chinese: 胡晓媛; born 1977, Heilongjiang, China) is a contemporary Chinese artist. She was featured in the 12th Documenta Kassel (in 2007) and recently took part in group exhibition The Ungovernables 2012 of New Museum Triennial in 2012. Hu currently lives in Beijing, China.
Early life and education
Hu was born in Harbin, China in 1977. Her mother was an accountant in a state-owned company.[1] At twelve, her mother employed a tutor to teach Hu drawing and painting.[1] Hu graduated from Central Academy of Fine Arts, where she received scholarships, in 2002.[1] She kept making art after graduation without being employed.[1] In October 2003, she started exhibiting with N12, a circle of twelve likely-minded people who were all Central Academy of Fine Arts recent graduates. [2] She has been collaborating with Beijing Commune, a gallery featuring contemporary Chinese artists, since 2010.[1]
