Md. Emon Mahmud (Nickname: Babu, born 3 June 1993) is a Bangladeshi professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for Bangladesh Premier League side Bashundhara Kings and the Bangladesh national football team. Emon has a record of winning hattrick Bangladesh Premier League championship, the first for a Bangladeshi player. He has won 10 trophies in his career, including four league titles, three independence cups and three Federation Cups.[1]

Emon is currently the highest paid Bangladeshi football player in the country. Bashundhara Kings signed him in 2018 with a record of 65 lacs Bangladeshi Taka for the season. Currently Bashundhara Kings published in their page that Emon will be staying for 2019–2020 season in their club. The fee is yet to publish but it is to be considered that he will again be the highest paid Bangladeshi player in the country.
His official full name is Md. Emon Mahmud and his nickname is Babu but popularly he is known as Emon Babu in the media and football arena of Bangladesh.

Early life

Emon's hometown is Dhaka and he was born in Dhupkhola, Gendaria. He used to play football in Dhupkhola field from his childhood where he fell in love with football. Once his friend got a best player's crest in a tournament. He wanted to get a crest like that so he started working hard for that. Later he got two best player's crest in Quarterfinal and Semifinal of a tournament. In the final his team won by his assist. The tournament's performance earned him a call from Bangladesh U-14 team trial.

The U-14 camp was conducted by Abu Yousuf in BKSP. Emon became the captain of the team and with his performance he got chance in U-17 and U-18 teams. Atlast he got call for Bangladesh national football team in 2009.

In club level, first he started playing for Farashganj SC. But it was not under any professional contract. The Farashganj team used to practice where Emon used to play and the coach asked him to play with Farashganj. So he went there and started playing. He first appeared in Farashganj team in Super cup. They were the champions of Plate version. But Emon's first professional contract is with Sheikh Russel KC.

International career

On 26 April 2009, Emon made his senior debut against Cambodia during 2010 AFC Challenge Cup qualification.

Style of play

A prolific passer, Emon is well known in the country for this ability to control the game with his dribbling and passing ability. All the foreign coaches are very fond of him as he has the unique sense to understand the game tempo and play according to that, which is rare in Bangladesh. He won the best player's award in 2017 Bangladesh Federation Cup.
