AppyPie is a technology company providing a no-code development platform that allows users to create mobile applications, websites, chatbots, and automated workflows without traditional programming. It primarily serves small and mid-sized businesses, startups, and entrepreneurs, and has been widely covered in independent media for its role in the no-code software trend.[1]

AppyPie has been reviewed by major tech media. TechRadar praised its AI tools but noted limited customization. Mashable ranked it above other app builders. VentureBeat and Wired covered its no-code role. The Los Angeles Times quoted an industry executive criticizing no-code platforms, including AppyPie, for being costly or lacking elegance.

History

[edit]

AppyPie was founded by Abhinav Girdhar on January 21, 2016, in Noida, India.[2][3] Initially recognized for enabling non-coders to build mobile apps, the platform was covered by VentureBeat in 2014, highlighting its potential for democratizing app development.[4]

In 2017, AppyPie introduced a virtual and augmented reality (VR/AR) app builder targeted at startups and small businesses.[5]

In 2018, it expanded its offerings with a no-code website builder.[6] The Economic Times featured the company's early growth and approach towards the business development.[7]

In February 2023, Appy Pie launched the AI App Generator.[8] Also in 2023, the company launched AppyLM, an alpha version of a large language model (LLM).[9]

In July 2024, the company acquired the platform Appsmakerstore.com, strengthening its portfolio in the no-code field.[10]

In 2025, it launched two multimodal AI models, PixelForge and Vibeo, for text-to-image and text-to-video generation[11][12] and also introduced PixelYatra, a Hindi-trained generative AI model.[13] The company also released Snappy 3.1, an upgraded version of its App Builder.[14]

Criticism and analysis

[edit]

Critics have highlighted potential challenges of no-code platforms regarding complexity and sophistication.[citation needed] The Los Angeles Times quoted an industry executive who stated platforms like AppyPie historically "lacked elegance or cost too much," reflecting broader industry discussions about no-code development.[15]

Review and reception

[edit]

Appy Pie has been extensively featured in media discussions about the no-code movement. The Indian Express highlighted its AI-driven approach in 2023.[16] Coverage from VentureBeat,[17] The Next Web,[18] Wired,[19] and ZDNet[20] highlighting its presence within the industry.

TechRadar noted AppyPie's AI-powered design assistance and multilingual support but criticized its limited customization options and dated templates.[21]

Mashable noted that AppyPie Design allows users to expect a certain level of quality from the content they create with it, and it also put AppyPie above the rest of app builders.[22][23]
