Aretha Lafayette Henry (born August 1, 1982)[1] is an American singer-songwriter born in Jackson, Mississippi.[2][3]

Career[edit]

Henry released her debut album, Beautiful, on June 26, 2010. The album was followed, in 2011, by a compilation album titled The Best of Aretha Henry-Jones. It includes singles Magic and In My Own World along with fan favorites from her debut album.

On August 1, 2012, she released her sophomore album Enchanted.[4][5][6]

Using various resources including social media networks Twitter and SoundCloud, she has built a strong online presence.[7][8] Aretha Henry is most known for her singles Magic and Captive which have become very popular without the push of a major record label.[9][10] In October 2012, Captive peaked at #23 on the Top 40 Urban/Hip-hop/Latin Chart.[11][12][13][14]

She re-released her debut album, Beautiful, on April 15, 2013.[15] In May 2013, the album appeared at #5 on Amazon's List of Hot New Releases.[16][17]

Stars from the Beautiful album has appeared on both the Top 50 Crossover and Top 50 Indie Urban/Hip-hop/Latin charts numerous times since its re-release.[18][19][20]

On April 28, 2014, she released the first single from her third studio album Superhuman titled Masterpiece.[21] [22] Her third studio album, Superhuman, was released on September 18, 2014.[23][24] On November 16, 2014, Party from the Superhuman album debuted at #48 on the Top 50 Crossover Chart.[25]

Aretha Henry announced the start of her own record label, Oz Avenue Entertainment in June 2015. She also announced her plans to release her next compilation album, The Best of Aretha Henry-Jones Volume 2 on the new label.[26][27]

Reviews[edit]

In January 2015, Fairytale from the Superhuman album received a glowing review from Arts and Entertainment journalist Chuck Taylor (writer and editor).

Aretha Henry previews third studio release “Superhuman” with the release of dreamy, ethereal single “Fairytale.” Packed with layer upon layer of soothing harmonies, the wondrously melodic song is driven forward with an instrumental template of gently driving percussion, giddy synths and soaring strings. Produced by Kevin ‘KJ’ Jones (who also happens to be Aretha’s hubby), she has already achieved top 5 status on amazon.com with debut album “Beautiful.” Consider this a bid to reach the top. Utterly magical.
