Armed Forces Institute of Cardiology (AFIC) or National Institute of Heart Diseases (NIHD) is a Government and Military Cardiac Hospital located in Rawalpindi Cantonment province of Punjab, Pakistan. This 250-bedded cardiac health care institute is a major institute and hospital in Pakistan.[1] The hospital delivering the heart diseases and health care services to people of Pakistan Armed Forces and fellow citizens of Pakistan.

History

According to history pages, initially this institute start working in 1970. In Pakistan Army Cardiac Service started in 1953 in Cardiothoracic Centre Rawalpindi.[2] In this centre first angiography was done in 1969 and first open heart surgery was done in 1970. Lately, the Cardiothoracic Centre Rawalpindi was upgraded as Armed Forces Institute of Cardiology in 1978.[3] After 3 years, in 1981 the hospital extend their services to all Pakistani Citizens and upgraded to National Institute of Heart Diseases under the President of Pakistan's directions.[4]
