Asansol Engineering College, a self financing institute was established in 1998 to facilitate technical education in industrial belt of Asansol.

Asansol Engineering College Main Academic Block

The AEC campus is located on Vivekananda Sarani at Kanyapur, Asansol-4. The NH-2 runs beside the campus. The campus is divided into cluster of buildings which comprises main academic block, departmental library, mechanical block, central library, administrative block and separate hostels for boys and girls. Many students who are passionate about dance, dramatics, singing showcase their talent in this cultural fest. Also performances of various bands such as Bhoomi, Cactus, Euphoria,Parikrama are held during this fest. The annual science and technology fest Infoquest is held in the month of February every year attracts students from various other colleges to participate in various events such as paper presentation competitions, exhibits and talks from guest speakers.

The academic system assigns a grade index with YGPA accounting for yearly grade point average and DGPA(degree grade point average)which is awarded on completion of course and achieving the degree from WBUT.The maximum possible index that a student can achieve is 10.0.Also, there are rules requiring a compulsory only 75% attendance in classroom courses. The institute comprises 11 departments. The academic departments in AEC include the following:

  1. Electrical Engineering(EE)
  2. Electronics & Communication Engineering(ECE)
  3. Computer Science & Engineering(CSE)
  4. Mechanical Engineering(ME)
  5. Applied Electronics & Instrumentation Engineering
  6. Civil Engineering (Danger: Under Construction)(CE)
  7. Department of Computer Application
  8. Chemistry
  9. Humanities
  10. Mathematics
  11. Physics

Academic Progammes

Every year, WBUT awards degrees, B.Tech, M.Tech, MCA and BCA to more than 600 students of AEC. The undergraduate students at AEC are selected through the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination(WBJEE) and All India Engineering Examination (AIEEE).At a given time, the campus is home to more than 2,000 people: students, professors, and non academic staff.

Undergraduate courses in engineering are 4 year Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) in Electronics & Communication Engineering, Applied Electronics & Instrumentation Engineering, Computer Science & Engineering and Information Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Civil Engineering. The B.Tech. degree course is based on a four-year programme with eight semesters. The first year of the B.Tech. curriculum has common courses from various departments. From second year onwards the students pursue their subjects of interest. The college believes in innovation rather than in rigour and students are allowed to carry out projects undertake training programs to enhance their skills through experiential learning rather than class-room teaching.Students are also encouraged to take part in various extra-curricular activities held in various other engineering colleges in India which helps them to gain new ideas and simultaneously use their knowledge to generate more ideas. In the final year of their studies, most of the students are offered jobs in industries and other organisations through the Training and Placement Cell of the institute. Some students opt out of this facility in favour of higher studies .

Most students of AEC get placed in multinational companies such as Infosys, TCS, Wipro. Students also gets placed in core companies like TVS Motors, L&T, Tractors India Ltd., BOC, Godrej, dellolite, etc. Just to highlight its recent placement records,in 2011 pass out batch-206 students placed at TCS and in 2012 pass out batch-237 students placed at TCS and around 40 students at Accenture. Its consistent placement record has significantly contributed to its position among the top 10 engineering college in West Bengal.

Student Life and College Events

Hostel facilities in AEC is good. There are totally three hostels - two for boys' and one for girls'. In order to help the 1st year students used to rigour of a professional course there is a separate hostel block for them.

Published annually by Asansol Engineering College, TECHNEXT contains articles submitted primarily by students regarding praiseworthy works and ideas from different fields of science and technology, covering a wide array of topics that fundamentally challenges every aspect in the relevant field of science and technology. The preferred topics on which articles were written are Space Technology, AI, Avinics, DNA-Computing, Terraforming, future Wireless technology and Security etc.

INFOQUEST is the annual technical festival of AEC held in the month of February every year.It brings a series of events and activities spreading over two days to captivate the minds of all budding technocrats from different colleges in India.

LeganZZa (great fest), the annual cultural fest of AEC usually held in March/April is often regarded as one of the best college fests in this industrial region. It was mainly initiated by a group enthusiastic students who wanted that to revive a culture of scientific thinking and promote research activities in the college. The main objective of this club was to organise different activities such as paper presentation, science quiz, wall magazines and other activities. Since its inception about 400 students have become the part of the club and it is still growing.

Student Achievements

In 2010 Asansol Engineering College won the first campus edition of the Ranchi Tata Crucible followed by XLRI, Jamshedpur. The other teams which participated in this event were ISM Dhanbad, NIT-Durgapur and IIT-Kharagpur.

In 2007 Asansol Engineering College's Cricket, Football and Table tennis team participated in Annual Sports Meet at IIT Kanpur and achieved the runners-up Cup in Table Tennis event.
