Leisure and Entertainment
Sunway Pyramid is a shopping centre opened in July 1997 as Malaysia's first themed shopping and entertainment mall. One of the mall's most easily recognised designs is the Egyptian-inspired Pyramid with a lion "standing guard" at the entrance. The rest of the building is embellished in the monumental style, complete with pseudo-hieroglyphics decorating facades, along with numerous Pharonic statuaries.
Sunway Pyramid was the only shopping mall in Malaysia to have an indoor ice skating rink, until IceScape Ice Rink opened in IOI City Mall Putrajaya.
In the center of Sunway is the amusement park Sunway Lagoon, which has many different themed parks, including some of the biggest rides in Malaysia and a large water park.
Sunway has a number of accommodation options for tourists and business travellers.
Sunway Resort Hotel & Spa is a 5-star hotel linked to the shopping centre.
Sunway Pyramid Hotel is a 3-Star Hotel linked to the shopping centre. It lacks gym facilities. The hotel also does not provide breakfast within the premise, and requires hungry guests to walk through a confusing labyrinth of walkways to the Sunway Resort Hotel & Spa.
A newly opened hotel, Sunway Clio Hotel, is also linked to the shopping mall and provides 4-star accommodation.
Sunway has a variety of food hotspots. Some of the main ones include BurgerLab, The Fishbowl, After Black and Garlic Chicken Rice. These respective shops are located in the heart of Sunway, just opposite Sunway University and a 10 minute walk from Monash University. Some other restaurants include: Whup Whup, Garage 51, Softcore, Thyme Out, Underground Société and Family Mart.
Sunway has also become known as a higher education hub, with two large universities in the area, namely Monash University Malaysia, and Sunway University, as well as other private colleges such as Sunway College, Le Cordon Bleu Malaysia and The One Academy, an accomplished art college that won the ADreline awards for 2006.
There are other notable schools in Sunway which are SK Bandar Sunway, SMK Bandar Sunway and Sunway International School.
Sunway comprises many other companies and residences not owned by the Sunway group. Places of worship include Masjid Al-Husna, which is located right opposite Sunway Pyramid. Several Buddhist Associations (not temples) and Churches are located in the vicinity as well, most notably the nearest Catholic churches would be St Ignatius Church in Kelana Jaya, Petaling Jaya as well as Church of the Assumption in Jalan Templer, Old Town, Petaling Jaya and the Church of St Thomas More in USJ, Subang Jaya.
Bandar Sunway is well-connected to the cities of Kuala Lumpur, Shah Alam, Petaling Jaya and Klang via a network of highways, namely the Federal Highway, the Shah Alam Expressway (KESAS), the New Klang Valley Expressway (NKVE), the New Pantai Expressway (NPE), the North–South Expressway Central Link (ELITE) and the Damansara–Puchong Expressway (LDP). The township is also served by an urban-suburb rail link, the Subang Jaya Komuter station.
Bandar Sunway is where the BRT Sunway Line is located. It connects the Setia Jaya Komuter station in the north until the USJ7 LRT Station in the south, passing through Sunway Mentari, Sunway Pyramid and Monash University in the process. Sunway Monorail operated in Bandar Sunway from 2000 to 2007. The system has since been shut down due to the expansion of the Sunway Pyramid 2, and part of its infrastructure were later incorporated into the BRT line.
Alternately, there are rapidKL bus services connecting Sunway Pyramid to Subang Jaya station, some 15–20 minutes away.
Since Nov 2016, The Selangor state government have been providing free shuttle bus that pass through Sunway Medical Centre, Sunway Pyramid and other areas in Sunway. The route 2 Bus from the Smart Selangor MPSJ route link Puchong City Centre with Sunway Medical Centre while route 3 connects LRT stations in Bandar Puchong with Sunway Pyramid.
