The show is filmed in Miami, Florida.

Shaunie and Shaquille were married in 2002, and Shaunie filed for divorce in November 2009. She is a philanthropist, a mother of five, and a rising entrepreneur.[citation needed]

Royce Reed was born and raised in Orlando, Florida. She graduated from Florida A&M University with a degree in Theater Education and Humanities. She is a former gymnast, competitive cheerleader, and dancer for the Orlando Magic and Miami Heat professional basketball teams. She is also the former partner of NBA center Dwight Howard of the Orlando Magic. She and Howard have one son, Braylon, born November 18, 2007. Royce recently started her own urban burlesque dance company, Fantashique, which travels around Florida. She is a self-described free spirit.[citation needed] Reed made national headlines for dancing provocatively at a pool party hosted by Terrell Owens leading up to Super Bowl XLIV in Miami.

Jennifer graduated cum laude from the University of Maryland, and is principal shareholder in a women's-only fitness studio called Flirty Girls Fitness. She also supports several charities and founded Project Save the World, a non-profit organization based in Chicago, Illinois. Throughout the series, Williams speaks openly about infidelity issues in her marriage.

Suzie Ketcham had a 10-year relationship with retired NBA player Michael Olowakandi, whom she met while attending Pepperdine University. Suzie was pregnant with their first child her senior year in college. She and Michael have two children together. Ketcham is a luxury real estate agent who has lived in Hong Kong, New Jersey, Los Angeles, and Miami. Suzie is of mixed Chinese and Caucasian ethnicity. There is still uncertainty towards Suzie's future on Basketball wives.

Gloria Govan is from Oakland, California and is the youngest member of the cast. Govan is of African-American, Mexican, and Hawaiian descent. She is currently engaged to Matt Barnes of the Los Angeles Lakers. The two had planned to marry on August 21, 2010, but postponed the wedding "to work on their relationship". Govan met Barnes when she was twelve years old, and the two have identical twin sons, Isaiah and Carter. Govan is executive director of Matt’s foundation, Athletes Vs Cancer. Although Gloria expressed a great deal of dissatisfaction with her experiences on the show during its first season, she has decided to return to the series for season two.
