Owned by the Attawapiskat First Nation Educational Authority, the station was given approval by the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission in 1995. The target audience is to residence of the Attawapiskat.
CJBA-FM provides both English and Native-languages radio programming with 60 hours of local content and 20% must be in Cree.
