The People's Republic of China has competed at the Summer Olympics since 1984. It does so under the name of China. Athletes from Mainland China also competed in the 1936–1948 Olympic Games, representing the Republic of China.

The Republic of China, now based in Taiwan, now competes at the Olympics as Chinese Taipei. Hong Kong also sends a separate team to the Olympics.
