Copyright enforcement companies are companies that contract with copyright-holders to find and enforce alleged infringement of their clients' copyrights. Trade associations also frequently engage in copyright policing and enforcement. As an industry sector, copyright enforcement companies came to prominence after the U.S. Digital Millennium Copyright Act was passed in 1998, facilitating inexpensive non-judicial enforcement of copyrights.
