One of three types of major commands, direct reporting units consist of one or more units that have institutional or operational functions. These units provide broad, general support to the Army in a single, unique discipline not available elsewhere in the Army and report to either the Secretary of the Army himself, or to a member of SECARMY's immediate staff.
