Is there a point to this category: ALL wars are invasions, unless it is taking place on a third, neutral country's soil in which case it is still an invasion of that third country. (Or unless everyone lines up nicely across the border and shoots each other.) -- Миборовский U|T|C|M|E|Chugoku Banzai! 06:00, 31 May 2006 (UTC)

There's no clear consensus on that, but some reasons have been suggested in this discussions. Another reason I can suggest is that this category allows us to make distinction between who was being invaded versus who was doing the invasion, whereas categories of specific wars are typically entitled "Wars involving X" rather than "Wars against X" or "Wars by X." If your definition of invasion specifies it as an interstate operation, civil war is an example of a war without invasion. EIN (talk) 22:56, 23 July 2014 (UTC)
It's not an invasion if the enemy is firing at you from across its own borders. Think Hizbullah, the current Donbass conflict, etc. EIN (talk) 15:21, 31 July 2014 (UTC)
The "Wars involving X" categories encompass also such involvement as armament support, with or without invasion. EIN (talk) 15:55, 31 July 2014 (UTC)
