The following is a list of streets, roads, avenues, alleys, lanes, places and pedestrian arcades in Melbourne City Centre.

Many roads in Melbourne conform to the original Hoddle Grid design and the city is famous for its numerous laneways and alleyways. Melbourne's streets are designed to the Victorian standards adapted from the Australian Road Rules.

Speed limits on all roads are 50 km/h unless specified by other road signs. Higher speed limits (70 km/h and 80 km/h) are implemented to facilitate traffic flow along highways and arterial roads. On most freeways, speed limits are between 80 km/h and 100 km/h, and the highest speed limit in all tunnels and bridges is 80 km/h.[1] Some streets, alleys and lanes allow road traffic whilst others are exclusively pedestrian zones. Arcades are a form of shopping centre in Melbourne that provide a pedestrian thoroughfare between streets.

Melbourne has also pioneered the widespread use of hook turns in many of its streets in order to enable the effective movement of the world's largest tram network.[2]
