Česnečka is a garlic soup in Czech cuisine and Slovak cuisine consisting of a thin broth, garlic, sliced potatoes and spices such as caraway, marjoram and cumin.[1][2][3][4] A significant amount of garlic is typically used, and it is typically served with fried bread cubes.[1][5] Additional ingredients sometimes used include lard or butter and grated cheese.[4] It is usually prepared without any meat.[5]

The soup is sometimes consumed for having a theoretical potential for easing or alleviating symptoms associated with the hangover.[1]

History[edit]

Cesnecka was sometimes consumed by poor farmhands in the Czech Republic in the 1910s.[6]
