Chandragupta Maurya is an Indian historical television show that aired on Sony TV from 14 November 2018 to 30 August 2019.[3] The show is based on the life of Chandragupta Maurya, the first Mauryan Emperor and founder of the Maurya Empire.[4] The show is produced by Siddharth Kumar Tewary's One Life Studios.[5][6]

The show is a seamless continuation of One Life Studio's earlier show Porus.[7]

Plot

The show takes off exactly where the story of Porus ended and starts with Chandragupta Maurya as a slave. The show focuses on Chanakya insulted by Dhananand, his pledge to not to tie his knot until he destroys the Nanda Empire by dethroning Dhananand and make any deserving the emperor of Magadha as well as Akhand Bharat, identifying Chandragupta as the future king and save the people from the Dhananand. But for that, Chandragupta has to practice hard, sacrifice his loved ones to make up one of the greatest empires of India, the Mauryan Empire, along with starting and looking after a family with Durdhara. Chandragupta Maurya with the help of his mentor Chanakya, kills each and every aid of Dhananand with his constant efforts and attacks of Dhananand's empire and his ministers. With his continuous efforts, he dethrones Dhananand and establishes his Mauryan Empire. While doing so and after establishing Mauryan Empire, he also fights with Seleucus Nicator of Seleucid Empire, the former general of Alexander the Great. The show ends with Chanakya completing his pledge and tying his knot, with a message that he wants a Chandragupta in every citizen.

Reception

The show was largely well-received. Writing for Zoom, Anusha Iyengar praised Sourabh Raj Jain's portrayal of Dhana Nanda and based on the first episode, wrote, "Chandragupta Maurya enjoys a good narration and a brilliant set design. The visuals are appealing and dialogues are even better."[22] However, Anil Merani for IWM Buzz pointed out that the makers had added lot of fiction to history, for there is no record to the link of Porus, Chanakya and Magadh.[23]
