Julio Mario Santodomingo is one of Colombia's richest and most influential men. Among his posessions are: Bavaria, Colombia's largest beer company; Avianca, the national airline; Caracol Radio and others. Santodomingo recently sold the house he was born in to Carrefour, sparking protests between the inhabitants of a traditional residential neighborhood in Barranquilla. When Mr. Santodomingo received a letter containing thousands of signatures, asking him not to sell his house, he answered: "I appreciate your interest in my house. If you want to stop Carrefour from buying it, please raise your offer."

Santodomingo currently lives in Paris.
