Cisco TelePresence, first introduced in October 2006, is a product developed by Cisco Systems which provides high-definition 1080p video, spatial audio, and a setup designed to link two physically separated rooms so they resemble a single conference room regardless of location. Cisco has sold about 2,000 rooms, with about another 250 non-revenue (internal and philanthropic) units installed.
A variety of Cisco TelePresence system configurations offer features including up to three 1080p flat panel displays, special tables, microphones, speakers, cameras, collaboration interfaces and lighting. Cisco TelePresence Manager allows integration with groupware, such as Microsoft Exchange which gives the system the ability to schedule meetings.

Philip Graham (Engineering) and Randy Harrell (Marketing) were the early employees who created the telepresence experience. Philip had experience in engineering video solutions, Harrell was expert in video conferencing market. Graham transferred into the team from within Cisco, Harrell was hired by Marthin DeBeer. Marthin was put in the lead role by Charles Giancarlo (SVP and considered the god-father of Cisco TelePresence). Graham hired a number of top engineering leaders in the quest to build the team. They include: Richard Wales, David Mackie, Chris Dunn, Lee-Lin Lin, Mike Hubenthal and Krutarth Shah.
The Cisco telepresnece products had the following foundation products. - CTS-3000 - A room based system that gave a lifelike room experience for 6 people per room - CTS-1000 - A room based system that gave a lifelike room experience for 2 people per room - CTMS - A multipoint collaboration network appliance that connected multiple rooms (Multiple CTS-3000 and/or multiple CTS-1000) into a single conference. - CTS-Man - A scheduling product that made it amazing easy to schedule a meeting.
These products provided very low latency with an great user-centric experience.
Later other products were developed that expanded the use-cases for smaller offices and connection to Webex to embrace the increasingly mobile world.
Later still traditional video conferencing was added with the addition of Tandberg via acquisition.
