Comedy Central is a Dutch television channel based on the American channel of the same name. The channel is available on cable, digital terrestrial, IPTV, and satellite operators in the Netherlands. It broadcasts many imports as well as original programming. There are also two other, 24 hours a day broadcasting, Comedy Central channels available in the Netherlands, named Comedy Central Family and Comedy Central Extra. These channels are only available on digital cable.

History[edit]

It launched on 30 April 2007 replacing former channel The Box Comedy.[2] Comedy Central has resulted from the channel The Box. The Box was first a Dutch music channel, where it was possible to request video clips. Later emitted mainly comedy series, mostly of American origin. The Box was acquired in June 2004 by MTV Networks Benelux of Viacom and on December 1, 2006 the airtime of The Box was shortened drastically after the children's channel Nickelodeon was moved from the channel Talpa (now RTL 8) to the channel The Box. After that time, The Box transformed into comedy channel, called The Comedy Box. On 30 April 2007 the channel was renamed Comedy Central. The years between 2007 and 2010 sent the channel each time from 20:00 pm until 5:00 am. The program began after the programming of Nickelodeon.

In October 2008 Comedy Central Netherlands had a digital sister channel, namely Comedy Central Family. The new television is a close collaboration between MTV Networks and Endemol. The station broadcasts 24 hours a day and was first offered by cable operator Ziggo. After this, other providers followed gradually.

On November 4, 2010 it was announced that Comedy Central will get more airtime. Comedy Central was timesharing with Nickelodeon until January 1 of 2011, when it moved to the TMF channel. On that channel Comedy Central broadcast 15 hours a day, between 15:00 and 06:00 (CET) and replaced TMF in its entirety in 2011. In the mornings and early afternoon Kindernet was being broadcast between 06:00 and 15:00 (CET).[3]

From 1 October 2012 till 31 October 2013, Comedy Central is broadcasting 21 hours a day, between 09:00 and 06:00 (CET). In the early morning hours Kindernet is broadcasting on the same channel between 06:00 and 09:00 (CET).[4]

As of April 3 of 2012 Comedy Central is also available in HD.[5]

Since 1 November 2013, Comedy Central is broadcasting 24 hours a day, replacing Kindernet between 06:00 and 09:00 (CET). [6]

From November 2011 the digital channel Comedy Central Extra is seen via cable company Ziggo. These broadcasts include the American satirical program The Daily Show with Jon Stewart and stand-up shows.

On 1 October 2011, the station has undergone a rebrand for the new logo. In 2012 started the station with HD broadcasts, beginning on April 3, 2012 at UPC and from July 2, 2012 at Ziggo. Is becoming more common in native HD broadcast on Comedy Central.

The voice-over since the start of the station in 2007 and since the rebrand in 2011 provided by Joost Griffin.
