Cougar Ridge Elementary School is part of the Issaquah School District and is nestled into the Vuemont Sky Mountain Community. Students who attend the school are generally from the Cougar Mountain region of Bellevue, Washington with the exceptions of Collingwood, neighborhoods off of Village Park Drive, and the neighborhoods south of Forest Drive. In 2001, Cougar Ridge's PTSA was recognized with the Washington State's Outstanding Chapter Award.[3] The school was also recognized as a Washington Blue Ribbon School in 2000, meaning that the school's programs, community, and achievements are all exemplary.[3]

History

Cougar Ridge Elementary School was opened in 1992 offering schooling for the Cougar Mountain community. The first principal for the school was Patty Kirk who was the acting principal until 2002, when Susan Quick (later married becoming Susan Walker) took over Kirk's position.[4] In 2001 to reduce crowding at Cougar Ridge due to increased attendance, all students attending the school who lived along Village Park Drive, in neighborhoods such as Lakemont were enrolled into Sunset Elementary School, a school located down the hill from Cougar Ridge. This helped reduce the number of students at the school dramatically. Today, the school's attendance area still remains the same from 2002.[5]

Awards and Recognitions

2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 GreatSchools.org rated Cougar Ridge Elementary a 10 out 10 score which is heavily based on state and federal testing standards. Making this elementary school one of the top in the state of Washington as well as in Issaquah and Bellevue Areas.[6]

Fifteen consecutive years, the Cougar Ridge PTSA has been recognized by the State PTA for 100% membership.
