Banovina of Croatia was formed in August 1939 as a province of Kingdom of Yugoslavia. Although it was not recognised by FIFA, a team representing the province played four international matches between April and December 1940. Croatia score always listed first.
Following the Axis invasion of Yugoslavia and the proclamation of the Independent State of Croatia (NDH) in April 1941, the newly established puppet state was admitted to FIFA on 17 July 1941. It went on to play 15 international matches during World War II, all of them friendlies against other Axis countries or their allies.
