David Walker (RAF administrative officer)

Air Vice-Marshal David Allan Walker OBE MVO FRAeS has been Master of the Household of the Royal Household of the Sovereign of the United Kingdom since 2005.

He was born 14 July 1956, and educated at the City of London School, and the University of Birmingham (BSc, 1977). He joined the Royal Air Force in 1974, and served in the Administration Branch. He is a MIPD and staff qualified (qs).

Walker served three tours of duty as a junior officer, including two years as Aide-de-Camp to the Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief Strike Command, and a posting to RAF Saxa Vord in 1978.

In 1986 he was promoted to Squadron Leader and was Officer Commanding Station Services Squadron, RAF Brize Norton 1985-1987. He served in the Air Secretary's Department (Engineering Officers Careers) in 1987.

He was promoted to Wing Commander in 1990, and was Equerry to the Queen 1989 to 1992. He was made an MVO in 1992. In the same year he became Officer Commanding Administration Wing RAF Lyneham. For six months he was posted to South Africa in 1994, and was made an OBE in 1995.

He was promoted Group Captain in 1995 and served on the staff of Strike Command; in the Royal Household in 1996, and as Commanding Officer RAF Halton in 1997.

Walker became an Air Commodore in 1998 and was appointed Director Corporate Communications (RAF), 1998–2001, and later was Director Personnel Policy (RAF) then Personnel Training Policy 2001–2003.

He was promoted Air Vice-Marshal and appointed Air Officer Commanding Training Group and Chief Executive Training Group Defence Agency 2003–2005. Air Vice-Marshal Walker is on secondment from the RAF.
