Duhok International Airport is an international airport under construction in the Kurdistan Autonomous Region in northern Iraq. It is located in the Duhok province just near the village of Sumail and the city of Zakho. In July 2015, Kurdistan’s Prime Minister, Nechirvan Barzani, announced that construction of the airport would begin within two months.[1]

Construction

2012 plan and cancellation

The Lebanese company Dar al-Handasa has started to build the company in the summer of 2012. At the end of February 2012 the airport facilities have to be completed. Another Korean company, Incon, has been given the assignment to set up the structure of the airport. This has to be done in May 2012 so the airport can start to operate.[2] It will be the third international airport in the Kurdistan Region.

Duhok International Airport (DIA) will cover an area of 1,500 hectares and include 18 check-in desks. The project will cost $450 million and handle approximately 1 million passengers for the first year.[3]

But unfortunately due to the raising crisis in Iraq, All funding on the airport has been cancelled until further notice.
