Eistnaflug is a metal festival in Iceland[1][2] that has taken place annually since the summer of 2005. Eistnaflug is an indoor festival situated in Neskaupstaður, a quaint little town located on the Norðfjörður fjord on the Eastern coast of Iceland, 700 km away from Reykjavik

It started out as a small one day metal festival on 27 August 2005 but has since grown into a three-day festival where metal, hardcore, punk, rock and indie bands share the stage.

Eistnaflug is held annually on the second weekend of July each year. The peaceful village of Neskaupstaður has about 1.400 inhabitants, but on the second weekend of July that number doubles. We are proud that the people of Neskaupstaður welcome us each year and that there has never been any trouble with the festival guests.

The line up usually consists of 30-40 bands, most of which are Icelandic. Foreign bands that have performed at the festival are Tyrant (SE), Napalm Death (UK), Actress (DE), Triptykon (CHE), Secrets of the moon (DE), Hamferð (FRO), The Monolith Deathcult (NL) and Cephalic CArnage (US). Domestic bands that have often played the festival include Sólstafir, Momentum, Innvortis, Saktmóðigur, Severed Crotch, Gone Postal, Carpe Noctem, Celestine and many more.

Musically, Eistnaflug is also a remarkable melting pot, with a few selected, prime foreign acts stacking up against a massive selection of all the great things the Iceland music scene has to offer every year. There are no boundaries – from indie rock to hardcore to black metal, everything that’s good is accepted and embraced at Eistnaflug. Having featured international talent such as Napalm Death, Secrets Of The Moon, Triptykon or Cephalic Carnage in previous editions, Eistnaflug 2013 offers Portland’s notorious rockers Red Fang, Denmark’s sludgy post-metallers The Psyke Project, Faroe Islands Wacken Metal Battle-winning doom sensation Hamferð and iconic German thrashers Contradiction as the respectable foreign contingent descending upon Neskaupstaður this year, and they will be stacked up against the cream of the Icelandic metal crop.
