Emma Raducanu (born 13 November 2002) is a British tennis player.[1]

She has a career-high WTA singles ranking of world No. 333, achieved on 9 March 2020. She has won three singles titles on the ITF Circuit.

Personal life

Emma Raducanu was born in Toronto, Canada to a Romanian father and a Chinese mother. She moved to the UK at the age of 2 and grew up in London. She started playing tennis at the age of five at the Bromley Tennis Academy, London.[2]

Her paternal grandparents live in Bucharest, Romania.[3] Her tennis idols are Li Na and Simona Halep.[4][3]

Professional career

2021: WTA Tour, Grand Slam and top 250 debut

Emma Raducanu made her WTA Tour main draw debut at the 2021 Nottingham Open, where she gained an entry to the main draw of the event as a wildcard.[5][6]

In June, Emma Raducanu made her main draw grand slam debut after being given a wildcard to the 2021 Wimbledon Championships.[7] She advanced to the third round with victories over Vitalia Diatchenko[8] and Markéta Vondroušová.[9] With this successful run she guaranteed herself a spot in the top 250 in the WTA rankings.[10]
