Summary

Description

Amos Catlin Spafford House in Rockford (1863). Spafford came to Rockford in 1839. In 1854, he founded a banking firm with two other partners. This establishment became the Third National Bank of Rockford and Spafford was chosen as the first present. He served until his death in 1897. His son also served as president of the bank, one of two in Rockford to survive the Great Depression. Members of the Spafford family were still working in the bank when the house was listed in 1980.
