  • A photograph of the completed mural for the 1939 New York World's Fair is held by the New York Public Library. A press release attached to the reverse side reads as follows:
    First prize for outdoor murals at the New York World’s Fair was won by Philip Guston in a voting contest carried out by the Murals Artists Guild among visitors at the exposition. The mural appears over the main [entrance] of the Works Progress Administration Building and is shown above. Its title is "Maintaining America's Skills." The painting is executed in rubber paint and covers 500 square feet.
