Summary
| Description |
English: Town Hall, Main Street, Cathcart. The foundation stone was laid on 17th February 1905, with masonic Honours, by Allan B. Gordon. It was completed and opened on 9th November 1905, opened by the mayoress Mrs Nicol. Acetylene gas lamps were installed for lighting and a Bechstein grand piano was purchased by the citizens of Cathcart, for the hall.
The first bioscope was held in 1911. Films were shown on large reels, with many intervals, as viewers had to wait for them to be re-wound before the next one could be shown. The hall behind the stage was used for the weekly market and the market bell, in a small turret behind the Town hall, came from the Orient ship which sunk off East London in 1907.
