Description
English: An anonymous 16th century Portuguese illustration contained within the Códice Casanatense, depicting Mesopotamian Arabs inhabiting the marshes around Basra, known to the Portuguese as Jizares. The inscription reads: "These people are called jizares, inhabit some islands that are in the strait of Basra, are very valiant people and great marksmen" .
