Object history
Deutsch: Das Wappen vereinigt Motive, die die geographische Lage und die historischen Herrschaftsverhältnisse der Gemeinde symbolisieren. Der Ort liegt in einem Hochtal am Ostabhang des Feldbergs im Schwarzwald. Tanne und Dreiberg sind daher aussagekräftige Bilder für den heilklimatischen Kurort Hinterzarten. Die Grundherrschaft über das Dorf übte seit dem Ende des 16. Jahrhunderts bis 1808 die Familie der Freiherren und späteren Grafen Sickingen-Hohenburg aus. Ihr Wappenschild ist auf den Dreiberg gelegt. Das Wappen wurde auf Vorschlag des Generallandesarchivs vom Jahre 1909 von der Gemeinde angenommen, wobei für diesen Entwurf nicht zuletzt ausschlaggebend war, dass Hinterzarten bereits im 19. Jahrhundert eine Tanne als Siegelbild geführt hatte. Die Flagge wurde am 15. Dezember 1994 vom Landratsamt Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald verliehen.
